ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 ZT-70701-10M Video Card

5 out of 5 eggs Great entry level gaming card. 09/29/2015

This review is from: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 ZT-70701-10M Video Card

Pros: +Plays all the games I want to play at 60 FPS on high settings, 1440x900

+Dual or tri monitors can be set up.

+Quiet, nearly silent, even when under heavy loads I can't hear the fan running.

+Easily overclockable with Zotac FireStorm (or similar software).

+3 year extended warranty after registering the card with Zotac within 28 days of the purchase date.

Cons: -Mini HDMI, but I knew that when purchasing it anyways.

-Struggles with some games on Ultra settings, but that's to be expected.

-Doesn't make me breakfast in bed.

Other Thoughts: I got this card to play my games on Steam, and it works great! I got it on sale for $35 below the normal price, and it was absolutely worth it. It is certainly an entry level card, but I honestly don't see the point in spending money for a GTX 950 or higher when 95% of games right now can't take advantage of the extra horsepower. When games finally do take advantage of high-end cards, there will be far better options with newer architectures anyways.

If you do plan to play a lot of brand new games that will need higher requirements for High settings (and you don't want to settle for Medium), certainly saving up for a GTX 750 TI or better will be the option you'd want to go with. Most games that I play are roughly 1 year old or more, so this card is great for my purposes, and has not disappointed me.

Audio-Technica ATH-CHX5 SonicFuel Hyprid Earbud Headphones - Blue

5 out of 5 eggs Good buds for a good price 05/04/2015

This review is from: Audio-Technica ATH-CHX5 SonicFuel Hyprid Earbud Headphones - Blue

Pros: + Good price point.
+ Bass is toned down, but surprisingly tight, so these earbuds are not for bassheads, which may be a pro for some and con for others (it's a pro for me).
+ Not noise cancelling, can still hear things going on in surroundings.
+ Build quality is surprisingly decent for being plastic.
+ Very lightweight for their size.
+ Flat cord is very nice.
+ Nice little carrying pouch if you're tossing these into a backpack, carrying case, or purse.

Cons: - Highs are almost certainly artifically enhanced - almost to a harsh degree at louder volumes (they have not been burned in yet, so that may be a contributing factor to the highs being this way as of this review).
- Mids are semi-muddled, but not awful, this is due to the highs being so loud and the bass being so soft.
- These earbuds are somewhat awkward due to the large size, but are not terrible - good for normal exercise (walking, jogging), bad for headbanging and jumping around.
- Small soundstage - you can definitely tell that these are earbuds.

Other Thoughts: I bought these because I wanted something I could walk my dog around the neighborhood and trails with, but without any noise cancelling features of earbuds that fit into your ear canals. I also needed earbuds that didn't sound as bad and artificial as Apple Earpods.

I didn't want to spend a ton of money, which was another important factor since these were going to be used specifically for just miscellaneous purposes, and not for my serious listening and mixing (I have a set of Audio-Technica M50x headphones for that). I like the Audio-Technica brand, because I've purchased many pairs of other headphones and earbuds that were either uncomfortable, poorly built, or sounded bad. Audio-Technica's are well built and generally sound good.

I have many pairs of noise cancelling earbuds, but got tired of not being able to hear nature and other surroundings while walking my dog or riding my bike. The fact that these weren't noise cancelling (and Audio-Technica brand) were a major contributor to my purchase, and I wish there were more headphone makers out there that still produced these type of earbuds.

The bass is not as hard as other similar earbuds, which is great, in my opinion. When I was younger, I used to be a major basshead, but as I've gotten older, I find that I dislike the inaccurate sound that heavy bass causes to the overall quality of music. The highs and mids are slightly disappointing with these, but not a deal-breaker, since I'm not using these for their sound accuracy.

Some people may have problems due to the size of these headphones. These earbuds come with 2 different tip sizes (Small and Medium). I found the Small tips to be uncomfortable, but the Medium tips fit me perfectly.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. They are exactly what I wanted for the money that I was willing to spend. The build quality is very good, as expected of an Audio-Technica headphone. I would certainly purchase these again, or maybe spend a bit more for the CHX7 models next time.

SunSonny T-M30 Iron Man 3 Optical Wired USB Gaming Mouse - 1800DPI 6D 6 Buttons X3 for Gamer PC Laptops - Gold

Pros: 1 - The optical mouse works as it should, and is extremely accurate.
2 - DPI button works and gives 4 DPI settings (if you include the default setting)
3 - Very good build quality, soft rubber coating on the sides adds extra grip (and feels like my Google/LG Nexus 5)
4 - The LED lights are pretty cool.

Cons: 1 - The scroll wheel LED, the "Sunsonny" LED, and the blue LED inside the grill portion on the bottom of the mouse do not power off when my PC powers off -- and there's no setting in my PC, BIOS, or on the mouse to change that.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping the scroll wheel would have the option to click left and right by pressing the side of the scroll wheel (which is great for scrolling really wide or badly coded web sites) -- although it's not enough to list as a Con or take any stars. I knew it wouldn't have that feature, as it wasn't listed in the device overview or specs page.

I wish there was a way to turn off the LED lights when my PC powers off -- the only way I've found is to unplug it (too bright when I'm trying to sleep).
