This review is from: Crucial M4 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT512M4SSD2BAA
Pros: It's like buying a new laptop
Better battery life
My computer is now silent
Boots up in under 30 seconds
Firmware update works on Mac hardware, so no need to remove the drive.
Other Thoughts: This is the best upgrade I've ever made to any computer I've owned in the last ~20 years. I bought this for a 2010 MacBook Pro. Despite being limited to SATA II (3.0 Gbps) by the motherboard, the drive performs very well. It was a very easy upgrade, and I've had no trouble with the drive; a Hitachi 7200 RPM drive in the same machine caused hangs on wake from sleep, likely due to firmware incompatibility with the computer, no such problems from the Crucial m4.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: The drive is fast
Cons: My Samsung SSD is keeping my computer from entering S3 (suspend to memory) sleep mode. I have determined this by removing the SSD and booting from HDD. In this scenario, the computer goes to sleep as expected. On March 7th, I was told by a Samsung support representative that problems with sleep are common to many SSD makes. This is completely unacceptable. Sleep has been basic functionality for PCs for over a decade. The reason I purchased a Samsung was for its reliable reputation. This product is not reliable if basic functionality does not work. I want my money back so that I can buy an Intel 520.
Other Thoughts: I am running the latest firmware and using the latest Samsung software for the drive. I have tried all power-related settings in the software.
I purchased the drive Jan 28, 2012, but was unable to fully evaluate until now due to delays in building my system (i7 3820 processor shipment).
