Mediasonic HomeWorX HW150PVR ATSC HD Converter Box with Recording, HDMI Output

Pros: Good for OTA recording

Cons: I have 3 of these units, and have found they have several easily remedied issues.

Other Thoughts: 1) These units are hyper-sensitive to total average RF signal strength.
In a large Metro area, that leads to erratic lockups (the unit freezes
& is unresponsive to the remote until power-cycled).
I found a total solution was to insert a cheap FM trap in series with
the RF input. Others may find a 3-4 dB pad equally as effective.
2) Occasional Missed Recordings: For whatever reason, these units
randomly sometimes seem to fail to recognize an attached USB
device at record time, and the recording is 'missed'.
The total fix to this problem (for me) was to insert a reliable $5 USB
hub (SYBA CL-HUB20132) in between.
3) Recording glitches: As others have noted, this unit is very picky about
the write speed of an attached USB device, but I've found a few Flash
drives that do very well. A good external hard drive solves the problem,
but often leads to the random USB device recognition problem
referenced above (item 2), which is easily remedied as stated.

APC BR500 500 VA 300 Watts 6 Outlets UPS

1 out of 5 eggs Interesting item 05/10/2013

This review is from: APC BR500 500 VA 300 Watts 6 Outlets UPS

Pros: Compact size & small footprint. Uses standard UB1280 battery.
Fulltime voltage regulation. Stepped sinewave.

Cons: Old stock -> dead batteries (see below)

Other Thoughts: These appear to be very old stock. Mine enclosed a printout showing
it was manufactured/tested 11/4/05. Of course the batteries don't
last that long. Mine was dead as a doornail and would not charge.
Fortunately, I was able to convince APC to send me a new battery at
no charge to me. You may not be so fortunate.

Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Newegg - Customer Service: Brittnay Soto is terrific.
Quickly and cheerfully issued RMA & Prepaid Shipping Label.

Cons: First drive DOA. Failed all tests. Questionable packing.
One layer tightly-taped bubble wrap (pops bubbles on bottom).
Shoved in small box, loosely put in bot of big box with ALL
packing paper on top. Can't Newegg control these jokers?
They're like the dinosaurs of the packing industry.

Other Thoughts: Replacement drive is outstanding! Exceeded my expectations for a GP drive. Totally silent, and VERY FAST. 1TB platters. Wdidle3 works very well to disable Intellipark (initially set to a ridiculous 8 sec; I set to 5 min).
CrystalDiskMark (5 tests, 500MB):
Seq: (1024KB) 151.2 149.6
512K (Seq): 52.72 98.73
