PowerColor Radeon R9 290X DirectX 11.2 AXR9 290X 4GBD5-MDHG/OC 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support OC Video Card

Pros: I purchased this card from Powercolor after having to return two cards from HIS (those cards were giving me constant BSODS within 30 seconds of starting any game).
This card performs extremely well, and can wipe the floor with any game so far. I game on a UltraWide monitor @ 2560 x 1080

Cons: Not really a con, since this is a known fact, but this card can get a bit loud at times when in heavy use. I play with heaphones though, so it is not much of an issue for me.

Other Thoughts: Most of the negative reviews on this card are "this card is so loud" or "this card is so hot" etc etc... Seriously, this is a known fact all over the internet. Stop giving a product a bad rating just because you failed to research and read properly.
And the guy who bought a refurbished card, your review has no place in a "new" card's page. Review your refurbished product on its own page!

Now that the rant is over... If you use MSI afterburner to set a fan profile, this card will keep itself cool very well, with a bit of noise depending on how heavily you game.

My fan profile is set to 30 degrees @ 40% fan speed, and 90 dgrees @ 100% fan speed.
Might seem aggressive, but my fan is always 10% over the temperature... It actually keeps the card pretty darn cool with this setup, fan rarely, ever goes past 50-60% (preventative cooling with the aggressive profile). If it does, then you are playing some super intensive game.

I am currently running this card overclocked to 1150 core and 1350 memory.

Getting a 2nd one for crossfire.

I have been building systems for 15 years, so I have a lot of experience with all kinds of hardware. Additionally, I'm a certified PC technician and own my own PC business.

In short, I know very well what I'm talking about.

1 out of 5 eggs After more than ten years, utterly disappointed in The eggs service. 11/25/2013

This review is from: HIS Radeon R9 290X DirectX 11.2 H290XF4GD 4GB GDDR5 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Pros: None, card was defective on arrival.

Cons: Card was defective on arrival, RMAd the same day.

Other Thoughts: I depend on my computer to work, so it was crucial that I obtained my replacement inmediately.

-The egg refused to provide an advanced RMA, for "unknown reasons" (customer service words)
-They failed to inform me that they would use the cheapest of the cheap shipping method for my return, even though I had paid for the most expensive next day shipping on the original order.
-Once I shipped the item with their shipping label, and realized that it would take 8 or so days for them to receive it, I contacted customer service. Again, "nothing they could do, and I had to wait." No option for Advanced RMA, once again.

BEWARE: IF you pay for next day shipping, if the card ends up being defective, you will have to wait around 16 days to receive your replacement.

IF you paid only for regular shipping, forbid you receive your replacement before the year is over.

After more than ten years as a customer and countless systems built... I might be leaving The egg after all.

Pros: For the 30 seconds (no exaggeration) that it ran, it offered incredible performance on all my games.

Cons: -BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) constantly within 1-3 minutes of getting into Windows, whether gaming or not.
-Tried any and all troubleshooting steps I could find online, and I mean ALL.
-Tried different sets of drivers, but no luck.
-Simply, I cannot use Windows for any time after 3 minutes without getting a BSOD with error code 0xa000001

Other Thoughts: I managed to run a couple of games for a max of 30 seconds before getting the aforementioned BSODS (and being forced to restart the computer) the performance during those 30 seconds was incredible.

I jumped through a lot of hoops to buy this card, selling my previous SLI setup, my old sound card, and even paid one-day shipping for how eager I was to obtain it. And now what? It doesn't work. After trying everything I could think of, I am simply assuming the card is faulty and returning it.

Fun fact is, I need my computer for work, but since I sold my old GPUs, I have no GPU to use my computer now.

I wonder if Newegg would be so kind as to ship a replacement card with one day shipping that I could hopefully get Monday or Tuesday.

I have used HIS in the past... 4870 x2, 5870, 6950, you name it... Their cards have always been good and solid to me.

As a long-time HIS customer... I am incredibly disappointed with this purchase.
