Big IPS panel at a great price

Acer K2 Series K272HUL 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) IPS 4ms (GTG) Black LED Backlight LCD Monitor, at 60 Hz Refresh Rate, Eco Friendly Design, Visual Comfortable and Build in Speakers
Acer K2 Series K272HUL 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) IPS 4ms (GTG) Black LED Backlight LCD Monitor, at 60 Hz Refresh Rate, Eco Friendly Design, Visual Comfortable and Build in Speakers

Pros: - Bright and sharp with good contrast - Wide viewing angle, as one would expect from an IPS panel - Still no dead pixels after several months of constant use - Terrific value if you get it on sale - Comes with necessary cables

Cons: - No Windows 10 drivers (see solution below) - 4ms GTG might not be sufficient for some heavy-duty gamers (which I am not) - Make sure your video card supports full dual-link DVI!

Overall Review: I am not a gamer, but wanted the additional real estate for my programming and CAD work. This display has performed admirably in that capacity. Windows 10 driver solution: I went out of my mind before I got my GTX 650 Ti to recognize this display as more than HD! I learned two things - 1. If you're using DVI, you must use a dual-link cable like the one supplied with the monitor. I initially tried using the single-link cable that had been feeding my HD display. Had I googled first, I would have used the correct cable to begin with. 2. Absent any driver file, I discovered by trial and error that the only way to get my card to recognize the WQHD panel (remember I moved from an HD panel) was to REINSTALL THE NVIDIA DRIVERS. Once I did that, it picked up the change in resolution and has been working great ever since. I'm very pleased with this display. WQHD at 27" is still very readable for small text (4K would not be) while giving me the extra screen real estate I needed to keep multiple pages of code or large CAD drawings on the screen. Based on my own fooling around, I also think this display's speed is more than adequate for the casual gamer. I would buy it again.

Failed after 6 months

G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Memory Kit Model F4-2400C15D-8GRR

Pros: Worked ok at first in my heavily-cooled, non-overclocked AM4 build

Cons: Didn't last very long even under these ideal conditions

Overall Review: After about 6 months, noticed a decrease in system response and erratic behavior on boot-up. Further investigation showed that one of the DIMMs was no longer being recognized. Tried DIMMs one at a time to successfully isolate the bad one.

Skeptical, turned out to be a great gamble!

MSI PERFORMANCE GAMING X370 GAMING PRO AM4 AMD X370 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI PERFORMANCE GAMING X370 GAMING PRO AM4 AMD X370 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: -Looks fantastic with the RGB lighting (yes, it's RGB) -Very good layout, fan connectors are very well placed -Metal PCI-E sockets -Rear I/O is very nice -The bios is very logical and easy to work with -MSI includes command center (can be grabbed from their website or CD) which will allow you to overclock the CPU and RAM.

Cons: -Awkward standoff location in the top left (sort of covered by the I/O panel -CPU back plate did not line up with the cut out on my Cooler Master HAF922, had to take the motherboard out and put the back plate on first. -No bios updater tool, put the new version of the bios on a USB and boot into the bios to run it. (Again, can be found from MSI's website) -NAHIMIC IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS MOTHERBOARD -The integrated sound card is good, but the rear I/O did not bother to color code.

Overall Review: It works and does everything I need it to. Had no problem with the overclock it comes with which set my AMD 1700X to 3.8 Ghz. Very easy to overclock the CPU and RAM with this motherboard. This is definitely the best bang for the buck I've gotten on a motherboard. It's easily just as nice as the MSI Carbon Pro, only difference is the carbon shielding and... I guess a slightly better audio chipset which does give you NAHIMIC 2+. This is a good value!

Now understand why the Ryzen puts Intel to shame

AMD Ryzen 7 1st Gen - RYZEN 7 1700X Summit Ridge (Zen) 8-Core 3.4 GHz (3.8 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4 95W YD170XBCAEWOF Desktop Processor

Pros: -Blistering fast, 15% fps improvement over my AMD 8350-Vishera -Stays incredibly cool with a Hyper 212X ($20 air cooler by coolermaster) -VERY good multi-thread performance especially when compared to the older AMD chips.

Cons: None, go ahead, I dare you to find a legitimate problem.

Overall Review: This is by far the best bang for the buck CPU I have had in a long time.

Piece of junk

Cooler Master Elite Power - 460W Power Supply
Cooler Master Elite Power - 460W Power Supply

Pros: Hasn't fried my system (yet).

Cons: Installed this in a minimal Phenom II 2X "office" system. From day 1 the fan would randomly switch to max speed when the machine was sitting idle and case temps were around 32C. Only response from multiple emails and calls to the manufacturer was that my case must be too hot even though that was clearly not the problem. Now, about a year later, I'm getting that dreaded "fan bearings about to fail" noise about half the time when I first power up. I'll be switching this PSU out for an Antec eco series this week and will never buy another CM PSU.

Overall Review: Always had good luck with Antec and PC P&C. Will stick with those reputable brands from now on.

Not one good word to say

Western Digital Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Didn't set off the smoke detector or damage any other system components.

Cons: Purchased 4 of these for a FreeNAS soft RAID 5. Upon discovering that they were not RAID-compatible (long error recovery cycle causes RAID software to think the drive has died), I decided to use them as individual volumes. Of course, since they're Advanced Format, I had to play with the partition alignment to get decent performance. After all that, one drive failed hard the first day and a second failed hard the following week.

Overall Review: Although the RMA process is relatively painless, I'm still out 20 bucks in return shipping so far! I am no longer comfortable buying "bare" or "oem" products from this seller.
