ASUS Radeon HD 4550 DirectX 10.1 EAH4550/DI/512MD3 512MB 64-Bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card

Pros: I bought this for my home theater PC. Good SD & HD video quality.

Cons: Fan is audible from ten feet away.

Other Thoughts: AMD really needs to perform quality control on their Catalyst Control Center application.

4 out of 5 eggs Decent backplane 03/14/2008

This review is from: AMS DS-3141SSBK 4-IN-3 SATA Module

Pros: Everything is as advertised. Fits nicely into case. Mine came with 4 long sata cables. Fit and finish is ok (not great). Stock fan keeps drives cool. Overall a nice unit.

Cons: Fan is a bit loud at both settings. 2xmolex & 2xsata power connectors.

Other Thoughts: Stock fan is loud. It is 80x20mm. I ended up replacing it with 80x15mm one. 80x25mm won't fit. Stock fan is powerful (over one amp), so virtually any 80mm fan is going to be quieter. Replacement involves swapping power connector from stock fan.

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 2600XT DirectX 10 100210L 256MB 128-Bit GDDR4 PCI Express x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Low cost.

Cons: I bought this card for HTPC purposes and it has not fulfilled any expectations. Out of the box it had severe underscan, poor video quality (smearing mpeg2) and atikmdag would crash constantly when playing protected video content. Is this the ATI of old?

Other Thoughts: AMD needs to recognize that poor driver support for their video cards will affect processor sales as well. I've bought AMD cpus for years but really don't feel like supporting AMD at this time.
