SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun DUAL Tuner TV Box W/ Network Sharing

1 out of 5 eggs Serious issue with this device! 12/18/2014

This review is from: SiliconDust HDHR3-US HDHomeRun DUAL Tuner TV Box W/ Network Sharing

Pros: Simple to set up and use. Works nicely if the device issue does not affect you.

Cons: There is a serious issue with these devices that the manufacturer acknowledges but cannot, or will not, fix. With any of the last few firmware updates some channels will stutter approximately every 30 seconds. If you can get the older firmware, this issue is not present, but for me it caused a different issue to appear. If you buy this you may or may not have the issue, but it's not a chance I'd be willing to take since there is no good solution.

SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel ML04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Looks great! Build quality is good.

Cons: Not much other than cooling everything quietly could be a concern if you have a powerful system. My only wish would be for an IR window.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for an HTPC case that looks good and is functional, definitely give this a look.

CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Looks nice and it fit in my Silverstone ML04B case for use as an HTPC.

Cons: The fan is way too loud for use in an HTPC that is part of an entertainment center. During quiet scenes, the fan noise is noticeable from the PSU even with all of the other fans disabled. I'll be replacing the fan myself with something quieter.

Other Thoughts: Had I known how loud the fan was, I would have never purchased this. Unfortunately the low price was negated by the need to upgrade the fan.
