ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router, DD-WRT Open Source support, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: - Worked amazing while it did.
- Great firmware support all these years
- Lot's of advanced settings for a home environment.
- WAS fast and stable.

for these reasons I won't go with just one Egg

Cons: - Well.. it's going/gone completely bad. I wish it just smoked out and died instantly.
- Oblivious customer service.

Other Thoughts: I had this thing for about 1.5yr and it worked amazing.. Fast, Super-Reliable, never ever had to reboot.... just a dream..

Ruling out internet here (unplugging completely) ALL connectivity drops more and more often as the weeks go by... Both LAN and WiFi. After a fresh restart of the device and Pinging, I'll get awesome <1ms for about a minute and nightmare begins... lots of timeouts and 100-400ms pings. This is all with ZERO traffic. Just computer (both desktop, laptop and smartphone) pinging router. And then connection drops... comes back after few minutes just to drop again. After restart it sometimes lasts working great for an hour or so but still has some timeout issues.

- Different cable (but irrelevant, wifi is bad too)
- Different computers
- Settings
- Factory reset
- Latest firmware
- Cheap backup router (works perfectly fine!)

Might be temperature even tho it's not feeling hot... since reboot helps for a while but it's near ground (cooler air) venting good. Also it was fine for almost two years and was never a problem even in crazy hot last summer.

Called ASUS they were trying to sound smart by guiding me to reset settings and change beacon interval and tx power even though i said it's LAN too.. just hopeless.

I used to love ASUS.. I own lots of stuff from them and more and more often they are going bad. Literally every other item I bought in past two years died. GPU, Monitor, Nexus7, Router. Also very bad customer service on top of that. Still few months into warranty so I might fight this RMA but it's gonna be bigger pain then just buying something new.

Rosewill RX35-AT-SU BLK Aluminum 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: less than 1 day

Pros: - Aluminium
- Price!
- Easy to setup
- Nice look compared to most ugly stuff out there

Cons: Speeds are way too slow. I know it's a USB2 but avg 14kb/s is too dAAAmn slow! still worth the money, i guess.

Western Digital Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: - Hoping quality and reliability is up to its name.
- Speeds are awesome, seeing 6 digits all the time between the drives
- 5yr Warranty

Cons: I owned 5 WD drives (4 blacks, 1 green) in the past 6 years and this 2TB is louder than all of them. I can hear ticking every few sec even tho i am not doing anything on that drive. My two 640gb WDs are super silent. Wish WD makes drives like that again :S

Not saying it's a bad drive, speeds are great, hope quality is too. But if you are noise freak you will tell the difference compared to older WD black drives for sure.
