5 out of 5 eggs Excellent value reciever 10/15/2008

This review is from: Pioneer VSX-918V-K 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver

Pros: NIce looking unit, simple set up, processes HDMI audio, USB in front, I got a black one! :-)

Cons: Blue LEDs (I'm tired of seeing them), Unit arrived in good shape but the foam was busted - shipped in original box - Come on newegg... at least use a brown box for something this expensive

Other Thoughts: I was looking at an offering from Yamaha, but HDMI pass through is just plain cheap. This unit does HDMI audio which is awesome for the price. Setup is easy using the MCAAC or whatever it is. I'm happy I got this unit, especially at this price point.

Pros: CHEAP! For $20 after rebate it's a no brainer.

Cons: LEDs are kind of lame... but oh well

Other Thoughts: Did i mention this stuff is CHEAP? It runs excellently in my hackintosh and I haven't had any issues

3 out of 5 eggs Good board - once it's workin 06/20/2008

This review is from: Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice chipset, good options, SLI ready, compatable with my hackintosh build

Cons: VERY picky about RAM, BIOS update was a bit of a pain

Other Thoughts: I first thought this board was DOA - no POST beep, nothing... I had 4GB A-DATA RAM (DDR800) in it. I put some DDR533 RAM in and it sprang to life! I have no idea what was wrong. I then put my DDR800 RAM in it and it has been a good board so far. The BIOS it shipped with was pretty old. I updated to the latest BIOS via a floppy and that took some time. The flasher didn't work, but then after using a different floppy it worked well. Overall I'm fairly happy with it, but that RAM issue makes this a 3 egg board. FYI - with this board my hackintosh xBenches faster than a Mac Pro!
