Great Board - See Here For Instructions....

ZOTAC GF9300-I-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
ZOTAC GF9300-I-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9300 HDMI Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board is the most packed ITX board with HDMI, VGA, DVI, etc.... I have built about 10 MCE systems for clients using this board and they handle bluray dvds, mkv/video files and everything else you can throw at them. This is def. a great buy for those who want to make a small robust media center computer.

Cons: To all the people that post "DOA" - THe boards are all actually built quite well, the only problem is an engineering oversight. The NVIDIA MCP chipset and the factory heatsink are too close to the CPU heatsink and the heatsink poorly conducts heat, as a result it will turn on for a moment and shut off and then pretty much stay off until it cools. The MCP chip jumps up in temp VERY fast. To fix this, a) Carefully remove the heatsink, wipe off the exessive compound on the chip and heatsink, buy some arctic silver thermal adhesive, glue the heatsink to the MCP chip (do not install CPU or put mobo in case yet) and let it SET. b) The stock CPU fan for the intels has wire clips on the side. You need to take the fan wire out and clip off the little clips. This is the problem people have without noticing, the cpu fan wire clip pushes the MCP heatsink at an angle which causes it to loose thermal conductivity, overheat fast and shut down.

Overall Review: I build these with the Apex MI-800 ITX case, LG Bluray Readers, 1tb WD Black/OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 4gb AMPx (2x2gb) ddr2, intel Q8300/E8400 Cpu's and the Rosewill MCE remotes.

Not so great..

Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Red LED Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators
Cooler Master SickleFlow 120 - Sleeve Bearing 120mm Red LED Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators

Pros: Specs 19dba @ 69CFM, reasonably priced and LED is just a decent amount of brightness.

Cons: a) As another review stated, they probably get 19dba in a benchmark/lab. I have a Coolermaster Cosmos S and I installed these fans on the bottom, top 3 and two push/pull on a corsair H70 all mounted in the rear fan spot. These fans are not balanced properly and create a lot of vibration which resonates considerably when you have 6 fans or more like I do. It makes my case sound like a vibrating chair that is trying to fly away. On top of that, I have no clue how but these fans absolutely suck upside down (with the air being pushed UPWARDS). The top 3 fans on my case, I had them blowing air OUT and they made minute endless rattling noises from all 3 fans. I took the case apart and took them out and powered them on and when I flip them, the noise is gone. Overall these are not well suited for multi-fan, silent, high flow builds.

Overall Review: Should use these as a 1-2 fan setup per case, mount vertically or horizontal with air blowing DOWN for quietest operation. Do not bother with controllers, I use NZXT 5 fan digital controller and even at 40% they vibrate. I will have to find a better alternative.

UPDATE - HORRIBLE

areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: The card performs well for the price and has good overall specs.

Cons: So an update regarding my previous post. I bought this card on 01/11/2011 (go figure) and as soon as I installed it in the new server, it kept failing drive 2. I swapped drives thinking thats the problem, no dice, port 2 kept failing. I swapped SATA cables, no luck, ordered a new HDD cage, no LUCK..So obviously its the controller. It would strangely work for about 2 hours (while i setup SERVER OS and drivers, updates and other apps) and then all of asudden start beeping and show Disk2 Failed. - I contacted ARECA in Taiwan on March 14th, they deffered me to "TEKRAM USA" a LOCAL company for the RMA. - I sent them an email, days later I got an RMA number and instructions. I sent them the board, waited 1 week and received a box in the mail. - Packing slip said "BOARD TESTED OK" and "PORT 7 OK" and "RETURN TO CUSTOMER"... I sent them an email and they replied with "SORRY" and I asked for an advanced RMA or something and there has been no response for 4 days now. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST RMA!

Overall Review: I have NEVER had any manufacturer or their repair facility send me back the broken/defective item that I sent to them. Some just take forever, some just wont even respond. This is by far the worst, I waited almost 3 weeks to have my BRAND NEW card replaced and I got the same one back because of someone's incompetency or just laziness. I have one more board from a different client that has the same problem now and I am MAD at TEKRAM for their VERY poor service. I will escalate this to NEWEGG and if newegg fails to help me since I spend $80k a year or so here, I will do a chargeback and never buy areca and never buy from newegg. STAY AWAY IF YOU NEED FAST WARRANTY, OR BUY EXTRAS AS SPARES (like I did) AND THEN THROW AWAY THE DEFECTIVE ONES.... I AM VERY UPSET.

Horrible...

Intel S3420GPLC ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1156 Intel 3420 DDR3 1333
Intel S3420GPLC ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1156 Intel 3420 DDR3 1333

Pros: Made by Intel, who makes the industry leading Processors. They should know exactly what to do with making a motherboard.

Cons: Too many! - I have repeatedly tried to use Intel for server builds, and each time the server ends up with an Asus or Supermicro server board. Lately Intels motherboards are flat out horrible. VERY slow posts, VERY picky motherboard regarding components. ARECA ARC-1220 doesn't show up in half the boards in the boot rom. Overall I am very dissapointed in what Intel motherboards have become, perhaps I had to have purchased a $300+ mobo, idk, but for this price, I used Asus and SuperMicro that just flat out SPANKED this one. I now have 1 new boxed that I cant return and 3 other open box intel mobos laying around. Never again!

Overall Review: Perhaps a more expensive board will work better. So far this particular board has failed on 1 server for no reason, and 2 others simply just didnt want to work with the ram, raid cards, video cards, etc.. Server has a Matrox 8mb VGA built in.....you can forget about using a higher res monitor and if you get a PCI/PCIE video card, it will more than likely not let the server boot.

Very good performance & value

areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card
areca ARC-1220 PCI-Express x8 SATA II (3.0Gb/s) Controller Card

Pros: Speed = Very Fast Card. Also, many of you complain about how expensive this card is. I beg to differ, go find a competitors card that has the same specs/performance and see how much it costs! We are all spoiled! I build servers with these cards all the time and I have probably bought over 20 of these boards so far. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the performance and speed. Sorry, no tech data...

Cons: The web interface is somewhat dull but overall usable once you get the hang of it. Poor documentation in my opinion. Lastly, out of all teh boards I have used, 2 of them have the same problem, they keep failing drive 2 for no reason. I have not found anything online so far and I have to now experience Areca's customer service for the first time. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Overall Review: I suggest getting the battery backup unit. This card is a must buy!

Excellent..

Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W Continuous Power ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W Continuous Power ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Pros: Amazing product in my opinion. I bought it about 3.5 years ago and it has been on practically 24 hours a day since then with the exception of a few days here and there. It has just the right cable length, flexibility, connectors and options. Also, it is VERY quiet. A must buy item.

Cons: Too bad it doesn't last longer. Mine died after nearly 40 months straight of working :( I have to RMA and yet to see how good Antec's support is going to really be since this thing has a 5 year warranty. I'm pretty sure I will get nowhere and have to keep the spare I just went out and bought.

Overall Review: Many power supplies provide THICK, SHORT, VERY RIGID cables for the peripherals. When you are trying to put a comp together, that to mee is important, thus, I obstain from the cheaper ones. Also, PSU is one of the most important elements so dont be cheap and that have that go out on you. Get the name brand one and let it last you 3-10 years :)
