Rosewill Photon-550, PHOTON Series 550W Full Modular Power Supply, 80 PLUS Gold Certified, Single +12V Rail, Intel 4th Gen CPU Ready, SLI & Crossfire Ready

Pros: Solid build quality.

Cons: Unfortunately my unit seems defective. It powers on and works normally, but the fan kicks on, sounding like a jet engine taking off, after several minutes of use. The computer is not even under any serious load, just web browsing and other light uses.

I have one other Rosewill PSU, the capstone series, and that is extremely quiet. For some reason, i must have got a bad one. Be aware of potentially defective units for this model.

Cooler Master Sleeve Bearing 120mm Blue LED Silent Fan for Computer Cases, CPU Coolers, and Radiators (Value 2-Pack)

Pros: Quiet even at full speed (but be aware that the full speed for these fans is only ~1200RPM, so it doesn't move much air). LED looks nice.

Cons: One of the two fans is obviously quieter than the other one. Quality control is a bit lacking to say the least.

ZALMAN CNPS7000V(AL)-1-PWM 92mm FSB (Fluid Shield Bearing) Silent Pure Aluminum CPU Cooler with enhanced performance and silent operation
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I really like this CPU cooler. Its fan is almost silent when running at low speeds (<1000RPM) and the heatsink dissipates heat well. Its size is also quite reasonable - when installed, it doesn't obstruct any memory slots. My Athlon II X4 idles at 35C with stock cooler, and 29C with this one. I call it an improvement.

Cons: It can be quite loud when running at full speed. But a properly ventilated case and a well-configured fan profile in the BIOS should never build heat up to that extent. I have yet to see it run at >1500RPM.
