This review is from: SAMSUNG D3 Station 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STSHX-D401TDB Black
Pros: -Easy to use
Cons: -None so far
Other Thoughts: -Using it for monthly backups. I didn't have the initial problems mentioned by others. After buying it, it sat for over a year before getting used the first time. Hasn't been used very long, so I can't say anything about long-term dependability.
-The case design, materials, etc don't concern me. It's not on public display or getting mishandled. I just need the drive to work. If anything with the case fails, I'll just pull the drive....it was cheaper than buying an internal drive.
Pros: -WiFi access is the best feature
-Has a few options for connecting to it: WiFi, USB, and ethernet cable
-USB power connection. Can use any wall adapter with the correct rating. No lost power adapters
-Ready for Apple products to backup
-You can reset it without losing everything
-Virtually no security
-Resetting access does not wipe drive
Other Thoughts: I bought this to backup an iPad and iPhone more than anything else. The wireless connection made this very easy to do. It wasn't long before alternative methods were used and this became just another portable drive, with the added benefit of wireless access. I started using it as a transfer point for android tablet, ebook reader, and PC.
This thing gets hot! I would not leave this plugged in all the time. And don't forget to protect the surface, especially if you set it on wood.
I mentioned a security issue. There is no way to protect this drive. Anyone that can get their hands on it can access everything, including changing the WiFi password. I contacted the MFG and their response was that the security was the WiFi password. And something about not being able to encrypt it because the WiFi portion needed to work. So, wirelessly, the Admin account changes the WiFi PW. The WiFi PW allows unrestricted access to the drive. A button on the back controls the wireless admin account and allows reset without data loss(protection). Physically, just plug it in and you're in.
