BIOSTAR TA970 Ver. 5.3 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: UEFI compatible BIOS for those operating systems that require as much. All solid caps which is nice with a board at this price range. Board layout could have been a touch better but then again in this price range this is adequate. Limited overclocking but it is there. Supports core unlocking for the older AMD unlock capable CPUs. Has adequate Mosfet cooling for CPU power delivery. Does have memory setup for things like XMP/BMP profiles or manually set them as needed. Supports VID/Clock based for CPU. Officially supports 140Watt CPU. Supports RAID in UEFI shell allowing for booting using AMD RAID utility in excess of 2.2TB.

Cons: IO Shield required the sounds jacks to be punched out the rest of the way. Use care as they are extremely sharp.

Other Thoughts: BIOS only shows features available to the CPU type you are using. For example AM3 most do not support the boost clock rates(excluding Thuban based CPUs). I have had a few Biostar Boards over the years and all still work. Only one I have had to replace, thou it still worked, was an AM2 board in which a few caps at the CPU part were starting to bulge so I replace before system instability.
