Great Power Supply

hec X-Power Pro 600 600W Continuous @ 40°C ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply
hec X-Power Pro 600 600W Continuous @ 40°C ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply

Pros: I just purchased a SAPPHIRE 100228L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP from newegg. It needs 30amps to drive it. I used the PCIE 6+2 connector on this PS and it works grate. It is a substantial power supply and feels really solid. Holds steady voltages and amps per speedfan. Fans are quiet and the lights look great.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: This is a great value and looks good too.

Most Critical Review

Stock Cooler is Junk

HIS Radeon HD 6790 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card H679F1GD
HIS Radeon HD 6790 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card H679F1GD

Pros: Plays all of my games on ultra high settings without any problems

Cons: Stock cooler is crazy loud and eventually failed after about 6 months of use.

Overall Review: After seeing all of the comments here I decided to forego the warranty and replaced the inadequate and unreliable stock cooler with a Zalman VF3000A from NewEgg. It works great and is remarkably quiet vs the HIS fan. Runs 5 to 10 degrees cooler as well. New Egg offered free shipping and had it here in 2 days.

What a Difference

ZALMAN VF3000A EBR Bearing VGA Cooler
ZALMAN VF3000A EBR Bearing VGA Cooler

Pros: Remarkably quiet for having two fans. Remote speed control is a nice touch. Easy to install. 'nuff said.

Cons: It is rather large. I installed it on a AMD 6790 from HIS. (Not one of the cards this is listed for.) For this card the cooler extended out almost 2 inches past the end of the card. I had to move my hard drive.

Overall Review: This has been a great change. The stock cooler from HIS was really loud and had started to fail. As I reviewed the copious amount of negative feedback on the card it was obvious to me that getting a replacement under warranty was just going to yield the same result 6 months from now. I decided to void the warranty by replacing the cooler and I think it was a good move. It is soooo much more quiet than the stock card and the card hovers in the mid to high 30's when under moderate load.

2nd Time's the Charm

HP Laptop Pavilion AMD A8-3500M 6GB Memory 640GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6750M 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium dv6-6135DX
HP Laptop Pavilion AMD A8-3500M 6GB Memory 640GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6750M 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium dv6-6135DX

Pros: So many things to like: Great balance between performance and mobility. A8 Quad Core is very capable and delivers 5 hours plus for typical non-gaming use. The weight is good for its size and for the few opportunities I have had for gaming, it has performed well. Mostly SC2.

Cons: This is my second round with this laptop. The first one I received worked great for a day but after applying windows updates, (Specifically the AMD Video Driver Update for the 6750M. Listed as Optional), the lcd died. Well that is to say that after I rebooted it stopped working period. No HP Splash, No bios, No Nothin' on the primary lcd. The secondary vga worked fine. I tried reverting back to the old driver and eventually restored the factory image to no avail. If I let the laptop cool down completely (overnight), i could get the lcd to work but if I restarted the pc once it was warm the lcd wouldn't work. I suppose it is possible that it was a coincidence that the problem emerged immediately after the driver update applied. Even so, I won't be applying that update on my replacement.

Overall Review: Well as you see in the Cons section, I had to RMA my first one. Newegg was quick with the process. I was concerned that when they got the laptop it would work because it had a chance to cool down. (See cons) I included a letter in the bag atop the laptop screen that explained how to recreate the issue. The RMA team must have missed it so their initial response was to fire it up and let it run on the bench for 12 hours. It worked so they were going to send it back to me. I sent an email back explaining the problem further. To their credit, they pulled the laptop out of the shipping queue recreated the problem and got my replacement going. (All on a late Friday afternoon.) Great Customer Service = Newegg. Most companies would not have responded so quickly and would have waited till I got the laptop back and requested another RMA. That is why this is the only place I buy tech online.

Great Laptop

HP Laptop Pavilion AMD A8-3500M 6GB Memory 640GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6750M 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium dv6-6135DX
HP Laptop Pavilion AMD A8-3500M 6GB Memory 640GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 6750M 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium dv6-6135DX

Pros: Fast, Bright Crisp Display, light for the size, great sound for a laptop, Features: Fingerprint Reader, Blu Ray, Capable Graphics Subsystem, Very good battery life. All wrapped up in a really great looking case.

Cons: keyboard takes some getting use to. (Off center arrangement) Haven't thought of anything else.

Overall Review: Was a bit nervous about buying re-certified. It arrived in great shape, looks unused. Everything seems to work fine. As always, great service from New Egg. (How do they manage to be so consistently good???)

Good Option

Tripp Lite VGA over Cat5 Extender Kit (Transmitter + Receiver) B130-101
Tripp Lite VGA over Cat5 Extender Kit (Transmitter + Receiver) B130-101

Pros: Got this as an evaluation unit for use in a Restaurant environment for running a Kitchen Video system. It worked very well. It is small and rugged. The boxes themselves run cool so no overheating worries.

Cons: It would have been nice if they had a mounting bracket.

Overall Review: I'm using a Logic Controls LC8200 running WEPOS in this application. I hooked up this device while the controller was running and it worked fine, however when I rebooted the device it wouldn't detect the monitor and the screen output was blank. I updated the Intel Extreme drivers and that resolved the problem. It has worked great since.
