This review is from: ECS A890GXM-A2(2.0) AM3+ AMD 890GX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros: I specifically purchased this board for the following features: 32GB memory, 5 SATA 6 GB/s, HDMI output.
The board is very well documented, with easy to read markings. The manual is easy to read.
Once operational, this has performed as expected.
Cons: I purchased this board along with an AMD FX-4170, socket AM3+. Once assembled, I turned the power on, but nothing happened. After some research, I determined that the pre-installed BIOS did not support the AM3+ CPU.
I reached out to ECS support for assistance, but did not hear back. Unwilling to wait, I purchased an AMD Phenom II X3 B73, socket AM3, which allowed me to flash the BIOS. I then was able to swap out the CPU for my FX-4170.
Other Thoughts: Out of the box, this build was a nightmare. My previous system tanked unexpectedly and I rushed to purchase new equipment. Ultimately, I blame myself, as the AM3+ BIOS issue was all-to-easy to diagnose and some research would have saved me a lot of frustration.
I'm happy to have this working now but ambivalent about my purchase. I would not buy this motherboard again nor would I recommend it to friends.
I gave three eggs, as I was able to get this working and because it seems like a decent board so far, but I cannot deny I was originally inclined to give only one or two eggs because of the added and unnecessary frustration.
Presently, I am still waiting to hear back from ECS support.
