ASRock G31M-S R2.0 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

3 out of 5 eggs Bottomline: Buggy LAN, only 1 Case Fan Connector! Look Elsewhere! 03/12/2012

This review is from: ASRock G31M-S R2.0 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: It didnt' blow up.

Cons: SMALL motherboard
Sound Card Issues
only 1 Case Fan, 3 prong connector

Other Thoughts: Bottomline: The board is inexpensive, it allows you to give life to old components and mix them with newer tech. That's Great!

But, somewhere, ASRock messed up on this batch of built in LAN ports. As mentioned by others, the Lan connection will disconnect within the 1st hour or so and you can tweak the settings around and it makes it a little better, but honestly the best way to deal with it is to just drop in a LAN card and disable the onboard LAN via BIOS.

Another thing is that the motherboard is small, so make sure it has enough slots for what you need.

A major design flaw, is that it only has 1 Case/Chassis fan 3 prong connector, So if you want more than 1 fan, you are going to have to buy a Fan Controller.

Honestly, by the time you buy the fan controller and the lan card.. do yourself a favor... buy a slightly higher priced motherboard that does not have these limitations or issues!
too bad! i wanted to like it and recommend it!

ENCORE ENHWI-3GN3 3G Mobile Broadband Wireless N150 Router plus Repeater IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g, IEEE802.11n Draft 2 Up to 150Mbps
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: small

Cons: figuring out how to use it as a repeater is a bear!

Other Thoughts: docs are weak. Haven't figured out how to get it to work as a repeater. Now.. i am someone who has built over 20 home computer systems, and know my way around pretty good. I followed other peoples directions here, but honestly, the software should make it EASIER to use as a repeater, especially if you advertise it as such. I would not purchase this unless you are a networking specialist and don't need documentation.

Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002983 Black 8 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Does what you need it to do!
it's Logitech
less wires!

Cons: the mouse feels really light (cheap) even with
batteries in it.

Other Thoughts: This is a good starter combo.. not one specifically for gaming or digital artists. It works great and has all the keys you need and then some. It's logitech quality. The only thing to me is that, even with the battery in it, the mouse feels very light/cheap. Hopefully it lasts longer than the initial impression would suggest.
Overall, for the price, its a good value.
especially for just regular home use
