Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 2.5

Pros: Upgraded the MacBook drive in a 3 year old MB. Worked for 3 years, I guess that is decent life for a HDD. Seemed to increase performance when I upgraded it, though I didn't notice super huge return. Lasted longer than every other Seagate I've owned that died after 2 mo to a year.

Cons: Died after 3 years. No idea why, bought a new MacBook Pro and 3 weeks after transferring the data to the new computer this drive just died one day. Now it won't power up or anything.

Other Thoughts: 3 years seems like a decent life for a HDD, but I would have liked to see a longer life from this. I've got Western Digital drives that are going on 7 years and still running strong, but for whatever reason every Seagate I've owned has died. This one did make it about 2 years longer than most Seagates I've had.

Pros: Nice board. The power saving function is nice. I've had the board for a few years and it runs great. I play game and popped in a Q6600 and 4GB of RAM with a 9600GT gcard. Everything works great. The hard drive connections are a plenty and overall I enjoy it... until I tried to upgrade

Cons: When I tried to put another 4GB RAM in the board I get stuck in a boot loop. I am not sure why, but it is frustrating. The only RAM on the approved list is max 1GB, but the board states it supports up to 8, so not sure why I can't pop in 4 2GB sticks.

Other Thoughts: Overall I love the board. I spent a little more at the time and think it was worth it. I wish I could figure out what is going on with the RAM and boot loop.

5 out of 5 eggs Backup made easy 03/11/2010

This review is from: APRICORN EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL 2.5" IDE / SATA USB 2.0 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit

Pros: Was very easy to backup the hard drive on the macbook. I upgraded the drive from the default 60GB to a 500GB and it seemed flawless.

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: There was some issue with the photo library and as the macbook was my wife's I am not 100% sure if this issue existed before the upgrade or not. I think it did, but again am not 100% sure. This is not enough for me to give a negative for unless I thought this caused it. Given the nature of what this does, I doubt that to be the case.
