TOSHIBA CB35-A3120 Chromebook Intel Celeron 2955U (1.40GHz) 2GB Memory 16GB SSD 13.3

5 out of 5 eggs Practical Info from a Verified Owner 08/24/2014

This review is from: TOSHIBA CB35-A3120 Chromebook Intel Celeron 2955U (1.40GHz) 2GB Memory 16GB SSD 13.3" Chrome OS

Pros: NOTE: All Chromebooks are inhererently the same. The more you pay, the better the hardware running the software will be, but there seems to be a diminishing return of performance as the price of the Chromebook goes up.

If you're looking to stream media, write, or perform other basic web functions (working in Wordpress included), a Chromebook is a solid option. It does come with basic image and video editing, but it's not a replacement for more professional software. If you consider yourself a writer, you'll be working in Google Docs, which isn't bad. Google Docs works offline by default, but you'll have to manually install the Gmail Offline app.

I manage my personal information with Evernote, and Chrome's browser extensions do work well. There is no way to localize Evernote's notebooks, but the web version works just as well as the desktop application.

The OS takes up less than 7GB of the SSD, and because you won't be working with PSD, AI, video files, or general storage, the remaining 9GB is more than enough. The Chromebook's folder system is simplistic and efficient with 2 folders: Google Drive and Downloads. You can nest folders in either the Drive folder or Downloads, but you won't be allowed to create folders higher than that.

The keyboard is low-profile and doesn't have a Caps Lock (spyglass) key, but if you play around in the settings, you'll see that all modifiers (Caps Lock/Spyglass, Shift, Ctrl, Alt) can be reassigned. By default, the Caps Lock/Spyglass key opens the menu options for quick access to apps.

Tip: Make it a point to learn the hotkeys. Because there isn't a Home, Delete, End, etc button, there are workaround hotkeys that are beginning to be my preference.

Other positives: fast boot, long battery life, surprisingly easy to connect to varying wi-fi hotspots.

Cons: If you buy this expecting it to perform as a mid to high level laptop or Macbook, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Then again, if you're the type to hate Anchorman because it wasn't The Notebook, you will hate having a Chromebook.

AGPtek XH12 320GB Internal HDD/ Hard Drive Disk Kit for Xbox 360 Slim 360E

4 out of 5 eggs It's a straightforward piece of equipment 02/28/2014

This review is from: AGPtek XH12 320GB Internal HDD/ Hard Drive Disk Kit for Xbox 360 Slim 360E

Pros: No bells and whistles - does exactly what it says. Worth it.

Almost 2 months in, and it still works like a charm.

Cons: I took an egg off for packaging - it was left loose in the box with no packing material. It still worked, but I had an anxiety attack until the 360 recognized the storage.

Transcend TS-RDP5K USB 2.0 Card Reader

5 out of 5 eggs Does exactly what you need it for. 02/28/2014

This review is from: Transcend TS-RDP5K USB 2.0 Card Reader

Pros: This does what you need it to do - excellent transfer rate, snug fit for SD cards, no extra input slots for unnecessary devices. It doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when in operation. I've actually attached a piece of velcro to it and keep it attached to my case for when I need it.

Cons: It is a bit small - but then again, so are SD cards. You get what you pay for, and this is well worth its price.
