ASUS RT-N53 Dual Band Wireless N600 SOHO Router, DD-WRT Open Source support, Fast Ethernet, 5 Guest SSID, Parental Access Time control to Each User
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Built in software (ROM) seems to have everything the standard user would need and then some.

Great price paid for what I am getting and for a working unit that has good range and has been stable.

Cons: I can't think of any other than not as much DD-WRT support as other units I own.

Other Thoughts: Set up as a repeater and has been working great. I am not currently using the 5Gz band, so I can't speak with regards to that.

Acer Laptop Aspire One Cloudbook AO1-131-C9RK Intel Celeron N3050 (1.60 GHz) 2 GB Memory 32 GB Flash SSD Intel HD Graphics 11.6

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: * Sufficient processing power for your every day office tasks, web browsing, and even multimedia needs (E.g. streaming content).
* Good display quality considering the price paid for the unit.
* Unlike some devices in this category (cloudbook), this device runs a full version of Windows 10 Home thus you are able to run any native application within the unit's limitations / specs.
* Quick boot times to Windows.
* Great battery life considering cost paid. 40 minutes of use (typing a word document and some light web browsing) resulted in a 91% capacity left from a full charge. Windows reported over 7 hours left on battery at the time that reading was taken.
* For such a cheap computing solution, it has two USB ports one of which is USB3, Bluetooth (confirmed to be working), and an SD flash memory slot which can be used to add additional storage.
* Thin and lightweight which makes it easy to carry around.

Cons: * Power adapter tip when plugged does not feel like it has a tight fit. Simply put, the port feels cheap or broken.
* Comes with some bloatware and several OEM directories that take up a good chunk of the limited space the device has.
* Keyboard - It will take some getting used to typing on this keyboard due to the key size and shift key layouts. I end up having to make many corrections due to the size of the track-pad relative to the keyboard (track-pad picks up the slightest touch from one’s wrists).
* Space limitations will require a more attention on making sure that only what is necessary is stored / installed on the internal storage (E.g. Remove old Windows installation files, bloatware, etc).
* Windows updates can take some time due to the limited processing speed. They will also take up a significant portion of your available space if there is a significant update. Be sure you have some time when pushing through that update and that you have the machine plugged in just in case it is a major update.
* Free Office 365 offer was expired by the time the machine was received (notification received about offer upon boot, but failed when selected).

Other Thoughts: Newegg’s photos of the product showed the device came with an Office 365 subscription offer (see stickers). The machine arrived with no stickers other than the Intel one which I appreciated. The office software was pre-installed but failed activation as “the offer had expired.” Instead, a one month trial was offered or the option to pay for a subscription. With that said, don’t buy this device with the idea that you will have the Office 365 offer, as your device will most likely arrive with the offer being expired.

With regards to the space limitations, I created a system image of the machine, a restore USB drive using the Acer software, downloaded all drivers (just in case) and proceeded to do a clean Windows installation. That resolved the issue of the bloatware and all of the Acer OEM pre-installation software. This resulted on a machine with more available space that runs much more efficiently than with the original installation. I also elected to use compression on the drive to try to maximize the limited space.

In short, for the price paid for this machine after the rebate (under $80), one cannot possibly complain. With that said, I am very very pleased with the product received, included features, and overall performance. Sure, it has its limitations. Still, if you purchase this device with the right expectations, you will not be disappointed. Moreover, I would recommend this product for its intended use and would purchase another one if needed - especially at the price I paid.

iClever 10.1

  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: * Sufficient processing power for your every day office tasks, web browsing, and even multimedia needs (E.g. streaming content).
* Good screen size that outputs crisp text and has an overall reasonably well display quality.
* Unlike many tablets, this machine runs the full version of Windows 10 Home thus you are able to run any native application within the unit's limitations / specs.
* Quick boot times to Windows.
* With regards to software, comes with a somewhat limited version of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint which will allow you to create and edit most documents.
* Detachable keyboard which also serves as the "case" or protective cover when not in use and can be used as a stand to make the pad behave more like a small laptop.
* Great battery life considering cost paid (I would say 4 - 6 hours based on my typical use).
* It has expandability potential via a full-size USB port, a micro USB port with an adapter to convert it to a full size-USB port and a MicroSD flash memory slot which I have used to add additional storage (An extra 32GB in my case).
* Good touch screen response.

Cons: * Color - Orange? I guess it looks OK, but I would have rather have an option for black or gray!
* Power adapter is going to be troublesome to find if it breaks.
* I have noticed that the tablet sometimes does not switch back to "tablet" mode when detaching it from the keyboard. A quick restart resolves the issue. Probably a software or driver issue.
* Windows updates can take some time due to the limited processing speed. Just be sure you have some time when pushing through that update and that you have the machine plugged in just in case it is a major update.
* It will take some getting used to working with the included keyboard and track pad, but it is just a matter of that.
* Space limitations will require a more attention on making sure that only what is necessary is saved / installed on the internal storage (E.g. Remove old Windows installation files, etc).
* Not as "light" as some tablets, but still reasonable.

Other Thoughts: I paid a very low price on this tablet when I purchased as a shell shocker deal. With that said, I am very very pleased with the product received, included features, and overall performance.

I honestly do not understand why a reviewer gave this product a 1 egg review. Clearly that individual did not do his/her research when purchasing this product and considered his/her needs. To call this device "locked down" when it has more expandability options than your iPad (The iPad I have does not have a MicroSD slot for additional storage) and runs any Windows application (within the technical limits of the device) or alternate operating system (Linux) demonstrates that the individual did not consider his/her need and the limitations of the product purchased. Simply put, you cannot purchase a Hyundai Accent and expect it to perform like a Ferrari or have the same load / carrying capacity as a minivan!

Overall, I would recommend this product and would purchase another one if needed - especially at the price I paid.
