Pros: Large capacity, multiple I/O options, multiple RAID options, cooling fan.
Cons: Short life
Other Thoughts: Well, just got the results back from the Data Recovery company. All files are recoverable, although it had to undergo cleanroom engineering, thus I trust the unit will not be useable in the future. Let's see....Including new hardware to put the recovered files on and the Blu Ray burner to back up to in the future, plus the cost of the 2Big....grand total about $2,500. Pros: Multiple interfaces, cooling fan, seems rugged.
Cons: Should come striped in RAID 1 by default.
Other Thoughts: Really like the unit, but be careful with RAID. As TowermanT so aptly pointed out, RAID 0 is not for backup. I have run this for just that for three months and one day upon return from vacation, my C drive had crashed. No prob, right? Just replace the C drive, reinstall the OS, etc., and then restore the important things from the backup RAID. Well.....I got about 28GB of mp3s back and was beginning to restore photos and got the message "VBR corrupt, please run chkdsk" (I did NOT)To make a long story short, I've sent the drive to a recovery outfit. Pending the outcome of that I'm going to rebuild in RAID 1. I'm also going to invest in a 50gb blu ray burner for redundant, durable backup. Don't ya just LOVE computers!!!READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Multiple I/O options (USB, FW, eSATA), cooling fan
Cons: Replacement drives expensive
Other Thoughts: This is my first RAID. I'm running it in Raid 0 for max throughput. It's used for backing up my laptop and desktop computers. It's using e-sata which blazes. It replaces a setup with a Rosewill enclosure and a Seagate Barracuda (one of which fried). I regularly do full backups and keep 3 versions. I also regularly write DVD data disks of music and photos, since I trust NO hard drive. Have had many break in the last few years. This is a heavier-duty unit than I've had previously. Time will tell how durable it really is. Ordered on Wednesday, got it on Friday! Thanks Newegg.READ FULL REVIEW
