ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Ahhhh, the X58 chipset was probably the biggest change in computer architectural design since the Pentium 4 days. And the Core i7 series which first appeared back in 2008 was without a doubt a huge achievement from Intel that featured a radical new computing design which changed the way Intel further designed their subsequent cpus. This motherboard basically has it all, from DDR3 triple channel support, to SATA 3 ( albeit, through a 3rd party Marvell Controller ) to the 16 phase power delivery design for massive overclocking potential.

I got this motherboard from a friend of mine 2 years ago, and he bought it new when it originally came out. So in total it's been nearly 5 years, and its seen different ram, cpus, power supplies, and it's also been through massive stress as well. I have an i7 920 D0 overclocked to 4GHz with 1.41V and 12GB of Corsair Dominator 1600MHz ram. It has been running at 4GHz for the last 2 years, with only a few crashes, but that was only because my cpu needed more voltage.

This motherboard also featues USB 3.0 which can be handy for faster usb speeds. Another positive aspect of this mobo is its chipset cooling fins. There is adequate cooling for the VRM's, southbridge and the pretty toasty northbridge, which can get hot at over 1.3 IOH voltage. I keep a mini 60mm fan over the heatsink though, just to keep it as cool as possible for maximum stability.

Oh and by the way, this is hackintosh compatible! Currently running OS X Mavericks flawlessly on it :)

Cons: Nothing really. Everything on it still works!

Other Thoughts: Great job Asus for creating an extremely reliable, durable and fine piece of computer hardware!

ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Probably the best 775 motherboard that has ever existed! 06/14/2013

This review is from: ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I had this motherboard last year for around 8 months, and in that time it saw a Q9450 @ 3.8GHz with Dominators running at 1100MHz. Pretty insane overclocking board thanks to those 8 power phases and very efficient heatsinks doing a great job at keeping the X48 chip cool. Bios is very user friendly and has many options to adjust your pc's settings. Overall, a fantastic motherboard, if only 775 lived on further :( I have sadly sold it because I upgraded to the X58/i7 platform. Oh well, I guess technology evolves so quickly that you still feel nostalgia of that good ol Rampage Formula.

Cons: nothing that i can remember

Other Thoughts: Awesome board hands down.

ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

5 out of 5 eggs Fast, friendly and fantastic board 06/14/2013

This review is from: ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Asus has once again released a premium grade motherboard with high quality components on board. The heatsinks on the board are great at keeping the chipsets cool. I also like the 3-way crossfire/sli capability on board, with 3 PCI-E X16 slots, so full performance potential. The power phases on this board is insane, with 16 high quality overclocking ready chokes for the CPU, 3 for the ram alone and 2 for the north bridge. The BIOS is easy to navigate through and has tonnes of customisability features and the AI-tweaker section has many adjustment options in terms of over clocking. By the way, it has been a good 2 years since I got this board and to this day it is top notch. Got it up to 200BCLK the other night, so very impressive considering its age. Overall, a very solid and reliable board, that can even run OS X Mountain Lion flawlessly!

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: Would buy again haha
