Excellent external case

VANTEC NST-360UF-BK Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB & 1394 External Enclosure
VANTEC NST-360UF-BK Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB & 1394 External Enclosure

Pros: Very sleek, solid, and pleasantly heavy...doesn't feel "cheap." Holds a 500 gig Seagate perfectly. Superfast and quiet. Firewire transfers are scary fast. USB is, well...USB. Very attractive and functional design. Using it as a universal, bootable rescue/backup drive for all my Macs...works perfectly with everything from a beige G3 to an MDD to a Powerbook G4.

Cons: Wish the firewire edition came in different colors besides just black...I'd love a red one! FIngerprints, shmingerprints...this case rocks.

Overall Review: If you need an external hard drive case, this is it.

Well worth the bucks

Pros: Ordered two of them, slapped one in a dual 1 gig Powermac G4 MDD, the other in a Vantec external Firewire/USB2 case. Both formatted and mounted without a hitch. Total time between box and use, maybe 15 minutes. No complaints at all. They just do what they're supposed to, they're quick, and not as noisy as some drives I've had in the past. The internal drive will hold my digitized vinyl LP/45 collection, and the external will be a general Rx/Backup drive (totally bootable). What more do ya want?

Cons: None that I can see. Heat isn't an issue with the Vantec case, and the MDD has basically a wind-tunnel to keep its drives cool.

Overall Review: I'm probably going to order two more of these babies. One for an external case to hold tunes, another to go in another MDD for graphics work.

Very nice case!

APRICORN EZ-BUS-DT-KIT Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB 2.0 Backup & External Storage System
APRICORN EZ-BUS-DT-KIT Aluminum 3.5" IDE USB 2.0 Backup & External Storage System

Pros: Very nice external case, easy to figure out, had it up and running with a Seagate 500 gig drive in just a few minutes. I like that the on/off switch is front-mounted. So far, using this as a "jukebox" drive, and for being USB, it's functioning great on every machine I've hooked it to, from a beige G3 running OS 8.6 to an MDD dual 1-gig, to a Powerbook G4.

Cons: Only wish that it had Firewire ports as well...but Apricorn seems to have abandoned that model, unfortunately. The external power supply would probably get cumbersome if I had to move it around a lot, but for sitting on the desktop and just doing its job, it's unobtrusive.

Overall Review: I appreciate things that are designed well, and this case is designed well. Stylish, solid, and so far very dependable.
