Pros: All the connectivity and cpu horsepower you need for common tasks in a very sleek package. I was able to run ubuntu 13.10 amd64 without issue, even some buttons of the included IR remote work such as volume control. I paired it with corsair 4gb ram (N82E16820233080) , and crucial 120gb ssd (N82E16820148693), and logitech c615 webcam (N82E16826104469). It takes 15 seconds flat to boot to login prompt, or shutdown from login prompt.
Cons: The hard drive cradle has 4 screw holes to secure the drive, of course. I don't think there's a screwdriver small enough to get in there... you'll need to remove it to securely mount the disk.
The eye candy that is enabled by default in ubuntu really takes a toll on the responsiveness of the desktop. If you disable all the window animation it runs a lot smoother. It's not a show stopper, but just enough lag/choppiness to be annoying. I suspect if you used Xubuntu or something like that it would be a lot more responsive.
This review is from: LevelOne GSW-0507 Gigabit Switch
Pros: cheap & durable in harsh environments (crawlspace/attic)
Cons: These fail under a heavy load. I bought three of these, one for management and two for iSCSI. Testing iSCSI I was getting throughput of around 70MB/s. On the management side while on IPsec VPN, I was continually getting disconnects. Power cycling the switch helped, but the problem returned shortly thereafter. Replacing the switch with a spare 10/100 fixed the problem.
Other Thoughts: These are great if you just need to add more ports or for testing things, but don't use them for anything you'd consider mission critical.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros: Awesome feature set, good looks, nice price
Cons: Board is flakey from factory... probably BIOS related such as RAM clock speed issues using default 'auto' values, frequently locks up even in BIOS setup screens, unable to get it stable with two ATI HD5830s. It came with a fairly recent flash but there is one update. I'll try that and see if there's any hope.
Other Thoughts: I should have read all the one to three star reviews before purchasing this board. I made a quick decision off of the 500+ good reviews and a long, positive history with Gigabyte products.READ FULL REVIEW
