Does A Decent Job

Cyber Acoustics Platinum Series CA-3618 12 Watts RMS 2.1 High Performance Speaker System
Cyber Acoustics Platinum Series CA-3618 12 Watts RMS 2.1 High Performance Speaker System

Pros: I needed a decent small and fairly inexpensive speaker system for my new computer. The computer will be mostly used for graphics but there would be occasions when I'd need speakers and a direct connection for earphones within easy reach. My opinion is that the speakers work "as advertised", there are no frills on this modestly priced unit but if you don't need all the high tech gizmos and gadgets, then this set of speakers will work nicely.

Cons: none that really matters

Most Critical Review

Died In LESS Than 3 Months

WD My Book 3TB Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Storage WDBACW0030HBK-NESN
WD My Book 3TB Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Storage WDBACW0030HBK-NESN

Pros: Beautiful drive - functioned well - no problems there !

Cons: The unit failed to turn on (was flashing and then quit) & I assume it was an electrical failure and not the drive itself.

Overall Review: Since the drive contains about 2 TB of old data I am going to see if I can put the drive in an external enclosure and harvest my data. I realize this will invalidate my warranty but keeping my data is worth not getting a replacement unit from WD. I paid $150 for this unit and would have expected it to have lasted much longer than this one did. I have used WD internal drives doe years without any problems.

Mostly Nice Computer

ZT Desktop PC Affinity 7521Mi Intel Core i7-870 8GB DDR3 500GB HDD ATI Radeon HD 5450 Windows 7 Home Premium

Pros: This is a nice computer and I am mostly pleased with it. I have had very little trouble with the computer since the day I purchased it.

Cons: I lost the CD to reinstall the drive that came with the computer (later found it) but the reinstall was not an easy one and I had problems with ZT getting the correct drivers to work with the computer. Still after this reinstall the computer is not the same as before in several respects. I may attempt another reinstall with the original disks I now have found and see if the little problems I have had are now gone.

Overall Review: Since the day I bought the computer I have had reported high temperatures with the computer using CoreTemp. Much later I downloaded software known as "SpeedFan" and it indicated a bad "Winbond" and after checking things out I do believe the high temperatures were in fact erroneous to begin with. I do believe that if the temperature were in actuality what i was shown, the computer would have ceased to function long ago. Still the Winbond is a technical error which means the computer came from the factory like this.

Pros: See my previous review

Cons: I forgot to mention that the instructions that came with the machine were far from adequate. The "quick setup" was almost a joke and the pictured computer was nothing near what my actual computer was in fact. Had I not had considerable computer experience this would have stopped me in my tracks. What did stop me was how to install the wireless mouse and keyboard. There were more than enough parts and vague instructions that I bypassed that and located a standard optical mouse and keyboard and let it go at that.

Overall Review: Even with all this I am still only subtracting one egg. The machine is working perfectly, although I have not seriously put the machine to "work" at the tasks intended. The computer comes with a 1.5 TB hard drive, which in my personal opinion is "excessive" My internet computers hard drive is about half that and I have not even come close to the limit. Frankly, I put much of my data on external hard drives and back up that to a DVD. This is how I work and see things and I realize there are diverse patterns of use which are all viable and proper.

Nice, Small Scanner

Canon CanoScan LiDE210 4800 x 4800dpi 48bit USB Interface Flatbed Scanner
Canon CanoScan LiDE210 4800 x 4800dpi 48bit USB Interface Flatbed Scanner

Pros: This scanner is nice and sleek and will fit in nicely in cramped quarters. It also makes great scans.

Cons: The install CD does not have divers for Windows7, 32 or 64 bit. I learned this by putting it on an older computer just to check it out while waiting for a new computer. I had to contact Canon about it and they promptly gave me a reply with how to download the drivers. Personally I would have thought that something like this would have had the correct drivers on the CD. I still kept the 5 egg rating on this scanner, even with the driver issue.

Overall Review: I'd say buy this scanner if you do nothing more than documents and possibly a few photos. There is no need to buy a scanner with all the bells and whistles unless they are needed.

Decent For The Purpose

HP Desktop PC Pavilion Elite h8-1040 (QN562AA#ABA) Intel Core i7-2600 10GB DDR3 1.5TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
HP Desktop PC Pavilion Elite h8-1040 (QN562AA#ABA) Intel Core i7-2600 10GB DDR3 1.5TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Pros: This computer is built by a decent company and has many good qualities. It has adequate USB 2.0 slots (which I use) and also two USB 3.0 slots for future use. The video card is good and should be more than adequate for the intended job. The sound quality, even with on-board sound is more than acceptable ! The computer does not come with a recovery CD, rather the process of doing that is in the hard drive itself on a different partition. I don't know if doing it this way is a good or a bad thing. So far I have encountered no problems using the computer and I see for it enjoyable use.

Cons: The 5400 rpm hard drive is slower than the one in my other computer. The Windows Experience Index is only 5.9 and my other computer, with an I7 870 processor, is rated at 3.7 but the disk transfer rate is the main factor for the 5.9 score. My older computer gets the 3.7 due to the aero score. This computer seems to be a hair slow but that has not much bearing on what this computer will be doing. All this has cost one egg!

Overall Review: I bought this computer for a very specific purpose and that is to do digital work and music. Also the computer will not be seeing the internet, as it will be a "stand alone" machine. If you are planning on this computer to do serious gaming - I'd look elsewhere on the account of the 5400 hard drive, even tho the computer boasts of an i7 2600 processor but I think most gamers know what they want and need.
