NUANCE Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Home Voice Recognition Software

1 out of 5 eggs Won't install; nothing but excuses from Nuance 05/01/2014

This review is from: NUANCE Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Home Voice Recognition Software

Pros: None. Total unabashed piece of manure.

Cons: Won't even install.

Other Thoughts: Considering the many free online and cell phone voice recognition options, I expected this rather expensive program to work flawlessly.

Instead, I learned only after buying that it won't work with the built in microphone on my high-end (or any)laptop. Having to lug around a clunky headset diminishes its usefullness by 98%.

So I tried it with the included headset, which the program said would not work either, despite the fact that it worked fine with Windows Sound Recorder and Skype.

So I called Nuance, only to find out they offer no support on weekends. When I called on Monday (no toll-free support, by the way), I was told that a laptop's headset input isn't good enough, and I should get a USB headset adapter.

So I ordered a USB headset, which arrived today, plugged in the headset provided by Nuance, and was able to at least get the headset recognized. But the next step, to check the quality failed - twice. It says the quality of the microphone supplied with the program is insufficient. I give up!

Go Rock Black Mini Portable Speaker w/ Retractable Cables (TRMS02MC-BK)

2 out of 5 eggs Distorted sound at even moderately loud levels 12/31/2011

This review is from: Go Rock Black Mini Portable Speaker w/ Retractable Cables (TRMS02MC-BK)

Pros: Small, retractable cable

Cons: Awful sound

Other Thoughts: I purchased this because the sound on my laptop is often not loud enough to hear podcasts or music. I own a pair of small Logitech S-120 speakers I really like, but they require AC power. I also have an Altec Lansing Orbit USB Speaker (IML237), with great sound, but it's a bit large for my briefcase.

Based on good reviews, I'd hoped this one would give me good sound in a smaller package. But the sound is rather AWFUL, full of distortion, like a blown speaker in a cheap AM radio.

I bought one that arrived about 3 weeks ago, and it sounded awful. I assumed it was defective, and so ordered another one which just arrived. Unfortunately, it sounds just as bad.

I also have a Tune UIBS-400 Hands-free Bluetooth Speaker, which even at 1/8 the size of this one (a 1-inch cube) provides better sound.
