Clean Installs Are The Way To Go!!!

Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, DVD - OEM
Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, DVD - OEM

Pros: No bloatware, just windows. Plain and simple. Install what you need and want (drivers / software) from there and you're good to go!

Cons: Settings in more than one menu. More hoops to jump through to get what you want. Doesn't feel completely integrated. Some unneeded features being pushed onto users.

Overall Review: As a (mainly) general user, Windows 10 is a great bundle of software, and a good step up from Windows 8. Microsoft made a smart move with integrating the metro app system into the legacy option; it kept those die hard Windows geeks (myself included) from having another heart attack like when Windows 8 came out. It doesn't feel completely integrated though; meaning that a decent portion of the options in the "settings" menu don't cover some of those listed in Control Panel, and vice-versa. I also find cloud-based storage and Cortana completely unnecessary in my situation, and annoying / time consuming to disable. The legacy portion of the software still greatly resembles Windows 7 (with a few tweaks to get with the times, of course), an operating system that I still use at work, and am quite fond of. Overall, after one year of owning and using this software, I have no issues to report. Everything has worked flawlessly, and on the surface, it seems to run fast and smooth. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Most Critical Review

Worked intermittently for the first year. Now waiting on RMA for over two months.

CORSAIR AX Series AX760 760W 80 PLUS PLATINUM Haswell Ready Full Modular ATX12V & EPS12V SLI and Crossfire Ready Power Supply
CORSAIR AX Series AX760 760W 80 PLUS PLATINUM Haswell Ready Full Modular ATX12V & EPS12V SLI and Crossfire Ready Power Supply

Pros: - 80+ Platinum certified means clean power for your components! - Small form factor for the wattage rating; perfect for building in a tight case like I did. - Extremely quiet!!! I never heard the fan kick on once.

Cons: - Unit died suddenly after two months, then worked intermittently for the rest of the first year of ownership (see full story below). - Customer Service has been less than helpful to this point.

Overall Review: I assembled my computer in December of 2015, and everything worked great for the first two months. All of a sudden, I came home from work one night, and my computer would not POST. I tried using the power button on the case and the motherboard; nothing would happen. The only sign of life that it showed was the lighting on the motherboard would light up. I didn't have time to troubleshoot further that night, so I left it sit. The next day, I get home from work, and poof! My computer is on and running normally. This happened 6 times over the course of 9 months, and thinking I had a motherboard issue, I kept trying different things (unplugging all accessories from the motherboard, resetting CMOS, etc), but nothing would get it to POST except leaving it sit, until it finally died completely. I tried the usual things, with no result, but this time I phoned a friend to lend me a spare power supply to try. I plugged it in and the computer fired right up. Plugged the Corsair unit back in and nothing. So I now know my power supply has failed. My friend is generous enough to let me borrow his power supply while I go through the RMA process. I filed ticket number 6872185 with Corsair on 1/6/17 to get the process started. I received a response on 1/11/17 saying my request has been approved, and that I can ship my unit back to them for repair or replacement. They received my unit and the status bar moved to "processing" on 1/19/17. Now onto the part that I am extremely frustrated with; today is 3/23/17, and I have still not received a replacement unit. I have not even been able to get an accurate estimated date of arrival yet. Everywhere I have read, and everyone I have talked to, has praised Corsair as having one of the best customer support programs in the industry, and I just haven't seen it yet. I used the chat feature on their support website after two weeks of not hearing anything, and the representative I spoke with (I saved the content of the chat) said that he was sorry that I wasn't notified, but the unit was not in stock at the time. He said to call the number listed on their website and they would be able to help me further. I called the number the next day (because they were closed by the time my chat finished up), and spoke with a different representative, who confirmed that the AX760 is indeed out of stock. She offered to send me a RM850 (one model below the AX series; $40 cheaper retail but with a higher wattage rating) as a replacement, but I declined for two reasons; 1) It would not fit in my case. The max power supply length I can have is 160mm. 2) I would rather have the higher rated AX series with lower wattage (my computer is only running an estimated 290W, so I'm already overkill as it is) than have the next step down with higher wattage. I inquired about the AX760i, and the representative informed me that those were out of stock as well. I asked when I may be able to see my replacement AX760, and she told me they will be getting a shipment in at the end of February. I'm OK with waiting that long. March rolls around, and still no word about the power supply. I called again on 3/13/17, and spoke with a different representative, who informed me that the units STILL aren't in stock. She says they MIGHT be getting some in on March 17th. It's now March 23, and still no word. My trusty friend who loaned me his spare power supply needed it back, so to keep my main computer running, I had to go and BUY a different power supply, and I still have no answer from Corsair as to when I might see my replacement. Very disappointed so far in my customer service experience. I understand there's a difference between customer support, wholesale, and retail, but Corsair tells me that they are out of stock. I just did a web search, and every site I looked on says they have them in stock. There's even one site that says their inventory is low, but right after that it says "More On The Way". Are these units being shipped to the retailers instead of taking care of those who need them? If someone from Corsair decides to respond to this review, I do not want to see the standard "we're sorry to hear about your experience". I've heard that three times already from the customer support hotline. I want to know when I will receive my replacement power supply, and I want it now. Thank you.
