This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Prospector 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model MKNUFDPR4GB
Pros: Economical if bought in batches; does the job. I bought ten and they all function.
Cons: Useable capacity a little less than stated.
Other Thoughts: I have some mp3 players that take a maximum of 4 GB USB drives (a table-top radio and a car radio). These Mushkins fit the bill for subdividing my music collection. The shipping cost per unit is prohibitive unless one orders several units, since the shipping cost for several is only a bit more than for one. The useable capacity is actually a bit less than 4 GB, but not enough less to make a difference. Tip: to prevent the cap from going astray drill a small hole in the end of the cap and thread through a short length of string with a small knot at the end (small enopugh not to interfere with installing the cap). Tie the other end to the loop in the casing.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Rosewill 2 Amp 4 Port USB Wall Charger RUC-6180 for iPhone/iPod/iPad/MP3
Pros: compact, versatile, economical
Cons: The plastic connecting tabs between the two-prong plug-in part and the main body of the charger look fragile (loss of one star). When unplugging this unit from a wall plug I grasp the sides of the plastic two-prong plug-in part instead of the main body of the charger. If you don't do this be sure to pull the unit straight out from the wall plug without twisting it. Leaving the unit plugged into a dedicated extension cord is another possibility if one doesn't mind the loss of compactness.
Other Thoughts: As noted in the specifications, the available current output per USB port decreases with the number of ports in use. The output switching is automatic. Some people who complain about inadequate output evidently haven't read the specifications on this web site or the user manual.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Versatile. Can be used for DVD writer drive or a hard disk drive, either IDE(PATA) or SATA. However, the enclosure is very large for use with a hard drive so in practice no one would want to use this unit to enclose a hard drive.
Cons: This unit is difficult to assemble and there are no instructions whatsoever. I have sufficient experience with similar equipment that I was able to figure out how to install, in my case, a DVD writer. Even so it was a challenge. Anyone with less than advanced mechanical aptitude should avoid this unit.
Other Thoughts: After I assembled this unit with a DVD writer and turned it on it failed to operate and I soon detected the smell of burning insulation coming from the unit so it was a non-starter. I also noticed that there are several solder connections that project through the circuit board at the top near the back that may touch the metal casing when the unit is closed. Because of the difficulty of assembly, lack of instructions and potential fire hazard I consider this enclosure unacceptable.READ FULL REVIEW
