Works great, cheap, but should have bought a Ryzen
Pros: The ultimate old school FX (not counting the AMD space-heaters).
Cons: Would have been more sporting to upgrade to the new generation.
Overall Review: I thought I'd give the old MB a final boost, but then it failed a couple of months later, so I had to buy a new MB, at which point I realized it would have been worth the extra dough to by a low to medium Ryzen and an upgradeable motherboard. And some DDR4, and a new case, etc, etc. More money, but way more fun. Not that I need it for anything, but then, life is short.
Listen to the tribe
Pros: Worked fine at first.
Cons: Tried to set my old ASUS router as a repeater; after hours of tinkering with settings couldn't get the RT-53 it to log on the internet, after a couple of factory resets. Reset my old RT-N12 and it's working great as always. I've set up several wireless networks, but I'm not a serious techie, and life is brief. It's going back.
Overall Review: I guess I'm not so smart. Should have taken it back to xxx's as soon as I saw ratings on Newegg, but I thought I was smart. Not so smart, apparently.
I whined about ASROCK MBs, but it actually works just fine
Pros: Is working perfectly now. I think I stepped on an SATA power connection dangling out of the case. I'm ahamed of myself. I still can't get the B450 to work again, but I probably did something stupid there too. Computers are such a pain - so many variables, little wires, I'm too old for this stuff. I should probably get a Mac, except that I hate the memory of Steve Jobs even more than Billy.
Overall Review: Seems to work just fine, thank you.
Mysterious failure
Pros: Worked for a while.
Cons: I've been putting together pc's for 30 years. I'm not a newbie idiot. I wasted a couple of days methodically replacing components in the hope of reviving the MB; nothing worked. I then gave another try with a 570 ASROCK MB and had the same experience. Now I'm l going to have to go through the painful, after return period extended warranty experience on both of them. I'd have to say, just keep away. Never had this experience with ASUS, Gigabyte, etc. etc.
Overall Review: Maybe I've become senile, but I'd say, spend a few extra bucks. I've just burned up days of my irreplaceable lifetime with these pieces of .... use your imagination. I'll leave it at that.
As advertised
Pros: Good quality, price, very useful.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Recommended
Nice units, rugged, slightly dated
Pros: I've had an identical unit myself for over a year, and its quick and powerful - nice that it comes with an SSD and 8GB ram, I had to install my own. It's a high end business road warrior machine, a little dated (no USB 3, first generation I5) but with lots of built in options and features; eSata, set up for a dock that's readily available on "e-redacted", metal case.
Cons: You won't have this problem with Newegg, but I bought one of these from somebody else off Craigs List, and realized they had thrown an non-legal copy of Windows Ultimate on it. However, it was relatively east to get a copy of the correct HP Win 7 Pro disks and reainstall, which was recognized by MS no problem. Also, it's a first gen I5 with rudimentary graphics, not a gamer by any means.
Overall Review: This is the kind of beast I like - I drive a 10 year old Mercedes that I paid $6500 for that cost somebody else $65000. These are really rugged laptops, once top of the line, though now dated in some ways. Also consider; if you must use Windows, Win 7 Pro is my favorite and costs $135, so the laptop only costs $99.
As described, in excellent condition
Very good cosmetic condition, with i7 quad processor, very powerful (but runs hot, what did I expect). Added a Samsung 500GB SSD and 8GB of ram, really flies. Built in wifi very fast; only drawback were 2-2gb Sodimm's which had to go. Mainly, I was impressed with prompt, well packaged, delivery, and the physical condition of the laptop, which works perfectly and looks almost like new.
