5 out of 5 eggs Great machine 12/16/2012

This review is from: Apple MD103LL/A 2.3 GHz 15.4" MacBook Pro (New 2012 Model)

Pros: Build quality -- Second to none, even the more expensive HP and Lenovo models. Solid as a concrete slab (and almost as heavy)
Graphics chip -- The excellent 28nm Kepler-based GT650M. Same as the Alienware M14x-R2 which is designed for gaming. However, that laptop is only dual-core while this is quad. Its also made out of total plastic not aluminum like this.
Price -- Somewhat expensive but worth it, kind of like a BMW. HP's Elitebook series costs more and is inferior in both build quality and specs.
Upgradability-- You can easily add more ram or swap out the HDD/optical drive. The new retina models are so difficult to disassemble that they are essentially not upgradable.
Display -- Not retina or IPS, but outstanding nonetheless. Super bright with vivid colors. And, one of the few 16x10 screens still on the market. The glass cover is a very classy touch.
Scores -- 7.1 WEI (with aftermarket SSD) and 14,331 3DMark06

Cons: Only 4gb memory, seriously? RAM is so cheap and this laptop so expensive that it really should come with at least 8gb standard.

No msata connector. I had to remove the optical drive to install a SSD, but I never used it anyway.

Came with the old 10.7 Lion operating system, and I had to pay $20 to upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion. A brand new computer really should come with the latest OS, or at least a coupon to upgrade for free.

Other Thoughts: My gripes are minor and I was able to work around them all. If you can afford a BMW, then this is the laptop you should be driving!
