Microsoft Lumia 550 8GB 4G LTE White Unlocked Cell Phone 4.7

4 out of 5 eggs good phone, not great though... 09/25/2016

This review is from: Microsoft Lumia 550 8GB 4G LTE White Unlocked Cell Phone 4.7" 1GB RAM

Pros: -fast cpu
-good screen
-excellent camera
-4g lte
-no bloat-ware
-great gps and auto-updating maps

Cons: -not a dual sim device
-low 'disk space' from the get go
-windows has much fewer apps in the app store
-no wi-fi calling

Other Thoughts: windows 10 is even more intuitive than previous version. that a good part. slim and straight-forward uncluttered interface,
however 8GB of space on the phone is barely enough to hold OS, 4 local state maps and half dozen simplistic games. that's it. i literally have to uninstall something in order for windows to get an update downloaded. add-on memory card is a must. changed setting to put all new stuff on it (photos, video, maps and apps) and problem went away

since phone is unlocked and not tied to any carrier i don't get wi-fi calling that i had with my other windows phone i brought through t-mobile.

it has better reception than my other phone.

for the money this is a great capable device. don't misconstrued this as cheap but not very powerful device. it is plenty powerful for most things and there is nothing cheap about it. it priced as an entry phone while performs as upper mid-range device.

recommended for someone who just wants a nice working smart phone to do emails, texting with occasional internet browsing or app use. for someone who is technical enough but not 'really out there' when it comes to modding and tweaking their device or use a gazillion apps to for things needed and not.

Nokia Lumia 521 (T-Mobile) 4G Dual-Core 1.0GHz Windows 8 OS Cell Phone Bundle with iLuv Portable Speaker Case & hypercel Car Charger
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: -price
-voice quality

Cons: -screen resolution
-no photo flash
-no forward facing camera
-plastic case scratches easily.

Other Thoughts: in the age when phones get 1080p screens 800x480 is already generation behind. while no one should expect huge screen on under $100 dollar phone it nevertheless a gripe you would have to deal with everyday especially if you read off your phone a lot.

speaker it comes with is marginally better than phone speaker itself. it is however heavy when loaded with 3 AA batteries. It also seems like it doesn't actually have much of amplification despite being powered by x3 batteries. I had to really crank up my phone volume to make it volume levels as you would expect speakers to have, but even then it's laughable. Car charger is a good thing though.

i would highly recommend to get a case and screen protector for this phone since it scratches really easily.

BIONAIRE BDQ01 Electric Portable Mini Dehumidifier - LED, 300ml, Compact, Silent
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: -inexpensive
-very quiet
-fairly small
-fit and finish looks better than expected at this cost

Cons: -no humidity sensor/auto-shutoff
-separate pretty large power supply that dangles

Other Thoughts: it's very quiet. inside the cabinet. i practically can't hear it which is what i wanted. humidifiers are usually pretty loud, especially larger once.

one real gripe i have with it is a lack of humidistat and auto shut-off function. it's running for days month and hopefully years, but at that non-stop rate i'm afraid something is gonna giver sooner or later. either compressor(or whatever they use in it's place) or motor bearings. I probably have to look into pluging it through stand-alone humidistat unit to extend the live of the mechanical parts.
