Great Camera

Canon PowerShot S95 Black 10.0 MP 3.0" 461k LCD 3.8X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera
Canon PowerShot S95 Black 10.0 MP 3.0" 461k LCD 3.8X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera

Pros: This is my third Canon point and shoot (I also own the first generation Rebel Digital SLR). Purchased the S95 right before going to Europe and I didn't get a chance to test it before leaving. What a pleasant surprise. this small size camera is awesome! it takes pictures under all light conditions. It is very FAST to lock the AF and also to shoot. I took some great spontaneous shots and the camera responded superbly. The quality of the photos in different situations, city, countryside, night shots and flash is great. The flash produces almost no red eye (I set it up with red eye reduction ON). We took a mix of people and landscape photos and they were all superb. The AF locks into peoples faces very quickly and it is a great capability when taking group photos. The ring control around the lens is a very nice feature and I am quickly getting used to this. I have not spent anytime reading the ~200 pages manual (downloadable from the Canon web site) yet, but very easy to use.

Cons: None

Overall Review: 1)Easy to use (my spouse who in general doesn't like to take pictures now loves this camera and just took it with her last week on a trip to Argentina) 2)Fast to focus and fast to take the pictures 3)Great light metering system, take great pictures even when there is uneven lighting. 4)Buy the SDHC card Class 10 to take advantage of the speed and also for faster transfer to your PC. During my trip I was transferring the photos to my iPad via the adapter sold by Apple. it was so easy and so fast. We could then look at the photos in larger size on the iPad.

Most Critical Review

Nikon Coolpix S570 isn't "cool"

Nikon COOLPIX S570 Black 12.0 MP 5X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera
Nikon COOLPIX S570 Black 12.0 MP 5X Optical Zoom 28mm Wide Angle Digital Camera

Pros: Small size and light weight. Price was very attractive and it drove an impulse decision as I was looking for a lighter camera to take on trips. The red eye reduction (double flash) works better than in my Canon.

Cons: This camera was a huge disappointment. The image processor is so slow that you have to wait a long time between pics. The focus doesn't work very well and 50% of my photos came out blurred. Some of the scene modes are flaky and gimmicky. Nikon could have done a better job with the features. The labels around the main control switch/wheel are dark and can't be read when taking pics in dimly lit environments.

Traveling Companion

Acer Aspire One AO532h-2223 Silver Matrix Intel Atom N450(1.66 GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook
Acer Aspire One AO532h-2223 Silver Matrix Intel Atom N450(1.66 GHz) 10.1" WSVGA 1GB Memory 160GB HDD Netbook

Pros: Excellent netbook for traveling. This is my second Acer Aspire One. Love the new silver finish because it doesn't collect fingerprints. The new Atom 450 works well (my previous netbook, now owned by my daughter, was an Atom N270). The new charger is more practical for traveling because there is only one cable and the charger is only slightly larger than a cellphone one. This feature pushed me over the line to get an Acer (again) versus switching to Asus or others. As always Newegg gave me great service and the new PC was home in 3 days!!

Cons: The touchpad as reported by others is not very sensitive and you have to press down hard with your fingers to make it work but it is usable and a little mouse works fine and it doesn't take much space on my travel bag. The inside platics around the keyboard and the screen panel are a "fingerprint magnet"

Overall Review: I cleaned up all the "junk ware" that comes pre-installed and loaded the Google Chrome browser. it is fast!! I had Firefox loaded as well and was able to compare and there is no comparison. In addition to the browser I installed Acrobat reader and Skype and now I am all set for the road. I use Google docs on line if I have to read or edit a MSFT Office Doc send by someone. Skyoe worked great and the sound quality with the speakers was very good (actually sounded better than my Dell Vostro) For traveling living in the "cloud" with Google is the best alternative and allows me to have a small machine like an Acer Aspire One as my gorgeous traveling companion :-)

Great Netbook

Acer Aspire One AOA150-1316 White Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 8.9" WSVGA 1GB Memory 120GB HDD Netbook
Acer Aspire One AOA150-1316 White Intel Atom N270(1.60 GHz) 8.9" WSVGA 1GB Memory 120GB HDD Netbook

Pros: It is very small and light. I am glad I bought the option with the 6 cell battery pack. It is ideal as a second PC for traveling. Much better that hauling my full size notebook particularly in long trips or personal vacation trips. I took it on a trip overseas and it was great. Skype works very well including the webcam (although the white balance on the camera is so so). Selected the white color case version based on all the feedback I read on postings regarding fingerprints and smudges. The white one is great. I just came back from a scuba diving trip and it was great to have a small machine to send photos and stay in touch via Skype. This is a great machine

Cons: The power adapter failed during my overseas trip and although it is rated for 240Vac the unit failed. I contacted Newegg but they don't handle warranties. I ended up contacting Acer directly and they were very good in sending me a new one and included a pre-paid FedEx label. The new power adapter is working fine now. My strong recommendation is to register with PC with Acer right away. it makes the warranty process smoother. There was an issue with the WiFi driver but I was able to resolve that on my own. There were certain WiFi access points were the data rates were painfully slow. The pre-loaded McAfee antivirus is a pain and a hog on start-up so I deleted it and loaded AVG (free) instead. No problems so far. The touch pad is OK but the position of the left and right switches is not very convenient. I ended up carrying a small mouse

Overall Review: Next time I will probably buy the unit with a SSD instead of a hard drive. Just because of start-up time. I also have a EeePC from Asus with a SSD and seems to be faster.
