Adaptec 2269700-R Flash Module 600 (AFM 600)

3 out of 5 eggs Short lived 02/26/2015

This review is from: Adaptec 2269700-R Flash Module 600 (AFM 600)

Pros: Did it's job.

Cons: Died at around 4 months of use. Bought 8/17/14, died 2/26/15.

Other Thoughts: While I realize failures do happen, it is frustrating none the less.

ASUS KCMA-D8 ATX Server Motherboard Dual Socket C32 AMD SR5670 DDR3 1333/1066/800
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: +Lots of features
+ATX form factor allows for flexibility when building a system
+Great price for a dual CPU board

Cons: -On-board RAID NOT functional.
-ASUS support is lackluster for their server systems

Other Thoughts: I guess I should give myself 1 egg, as I have read the reviews, both here and elsewhere and STILL purchased the board. Asus's server division apparently isn't as up to par as their desktop division is. I contacted support about the non functioning RAID and it took almost a week to get a response, which was supposed to have the BIOS attached to fix the problem, but it was not. So, I contacted them agian, almost another week and I get a reply that the new BIOS is now posted on the web. This board is MONTHS old, why does it take ASUS so long to get updates out? This is not at all a problem with their desktop boards, which was the ONLY reason I was willing to "take a chance" on this board. Other than that however, the board is actually working flawlessly. Knowing now how thier server division handles their business, I will go with Tyan or Supermicro for my next server build.

Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base and 5 Heatpipes

4 out of 5 eggs Good replacement for stock cooler 01/26/2011

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper N520 - CPU Cooler with Copper Base and 5 Heatpipes

Pros: +Great price
+Good replacement for stock cooler

Cons: Setup can be a bit tricky for 1 person.

Other Thoughts: This is a great replacement for the stock cooler on an 1155 system. It dropped the temp by 10*C under full load as compared to the stock cooler. It doesn't cool like some of the top-line coolers, but then again, it doesn't cost what they do. Installation is much easier with 2 people, one to hold the board and the other to attach the cooler, but it can be done with 1 person.
