be quiet! SILENTWINGS 3 120mm HIGH SPEED

5 out of 5 eggs Very quiet at lower fan speeds. 01/31/2017

This review is from: be quiet! SILENTWINGS 3 120mm HIGH SPEED

Pros: If you run these fans at 7 volts, or at the lower case fan speeds, it is whisper quiet.

Cons: At 12 volts or higher than 40% speed, the amount of air they are move is pretty intense. It got louder than the cheaper fans I replaced. I just run them at 7 volts or less and they work as advertised. One of the fans I received was faulty, and was making a high pitched whirring noise. I replaced it with an additional BeQuiet fan and its fine now (only $20 so no big deal). Didn't lose any eggs over it, as factory defects are bound to happen sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Just FYI, sucks in air from the logo side; it can be hard to spot the air flow indicator. I used metal shears to remove the protective metal grating on the front fan mounts of my computer case so that airflow was even less audible.

be quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 3 Silentwings CPU Cooler 250W TDP - BK019

4 out of 5 eggs Very cool, super quiet, extremely large. 01/31/2017

This review is from: be quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 3 Silentwings CPU Cooler 250W TDP - BK019

Pros: -With Intel Q-Fan tech this thing is virtually inaudible. Remove the front fan and it's completely silent, which only makes a 1 to 2 degree difference in temperatures doing so.
-Overclocked Sandy Bridge i5 never gets hotter than 45C under load, and idles at 38C.

Cons: -The size is something you must plan for. Pay close attention to the dimensions and size it to your board/case.
-On some motherboards it blocks one of the memory slots.

Other Thoughts: Install your memory FIRST. Fits fine as long as the closest DIMM slot's memory doesn't have a tall heatsink on it. Corsair has some great memory for this. I had some trouble because of the north bridge heat sink blocks access to one of the bolts. Useing iFixit toolkit I was still barely able to get it on there. If you have motherboard heat sinks close to the mounting holes, you can expect to have some trouble.

Pros: Easy setup, no driver downloads required. Was able to set up two of these in a RAID-0 Stripe configuration with no hassle at all. Fastest install of Windows 7 that I have ever seen. Boots up from cold start in less than 15 seconds! Used for a year now with no issues whatsoever.

Cons: No real complaints here.

Other Thoughts: Mounting solutions sold separately. These things are solid enough that you could use double sided tape and stick them to the case if you wanted. :P
