Pros: -Works just fine as a UPS for short power outagages
Cons: On Linux, you use NUT (Network UPS Tools) to detect when the UPS is on battery power and cleanly shut down when the battery gets low. But the USB connection keeps dropping off the system, requiring you to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. If the system can't be monitored, it's not able to shut down cleanly, so longer power outages are still a problem. I never had this problem with the APC I had before.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Seagate STAM2000100 2TB GoFlex Home Network Storage System
Pros: Simple to setup. If you want to hack it, it's possible to ssh into the thing from the local network side. The password includes the serial # printed on the bottom. It's running Linux and SAMBA, and you can download and install RPMs built for the ARM processor.
Cons: The device shows up on your network as a "\\GOFLEX_HOME" and you can't change it. That's fine if you only want one, but how about when you outgrow it and need to add a second one? Of course, if you can hack it and rename it that way.
Also, the backup software that comes with it is a trial version.
Pros: Moduler - only use cables you need.
Cables are round and sheathed in black. Front panel for fan speed control and temp monitor.
Cons: Pretty quiet at low speed. Automatically speeds up if hot and makes a horrible racket.
Other Thoughts: I plan to remove the PS next weekend and remount it with a rubber gasket to see if that will help.READ FULL REVIEW
