Icy Dock 3.5

1 out of 5 eggs POP 10/30/2016

This review is from: Icy Dock 3.5"/2.5" SATA/IDE Docking Sta MB881U3-1SA

Pros: From the description this was the perfect replacement for my old ICY Dock.

Cons: After waiting half a month for the item to arrive, I went to hook it up. Per the instructions, I plugged the power in then the HDD. Within seconds, I heard a loud POP and smoke started coming out of the dock. This fried both the dock and my HDD loosing all my data that was on it. The shipping package was all beat up, however there was allot of bubble wrap around the original box which looked fine. When I took the dock out it looked fine, other than the fact that the removable base was a little twisted.

4 out of 5 eggs So far 3 of 4 still working 07/19/2014

This review is from: WD Red 3TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD30EFRX

Pros: Size, price.

Cons: Not sure how long they will last.

Other Thoughts: I bought 4 of these to make a raid server for my home theater. After having them for @ 1 year, I just got a message from my raid monitor telling me one has failed. After running some diagnostics, I have found it is no longer booting with the rest at start up.
The other three are working fine as far as I can tell, and lets hope it stays that way until I can swap out the bad one. I have 176 Blue Rays ripped and do not want to loose all that data.
