Fast and tough

Silicon Power 1TB Rugged Armor A15 External Hard Drive (Meets Military Drop-test Standards) USB 3.0 Model SP010TBPHDA15S3K Black
Silicon Power 1TB Rugged Armor A15 External Hard Drive (Meets Military Drop-test Standards) USB 3.0 Model SP010TBPHDA15S3K Black

Pros: The drive is clad in hard rubber (or armor is how they call it) all throughout. It is rated military grade MIL-STD-810F meaning it was tested by dropping it 26 times on lava from 4 ft away. 4 ft having been the typical distance you may accidentally drop something chest high. (OK, I did lie on the lava thing.) The test is to have it drop in different angles, the sides, front, bottom, etc and the drive doesn't have to be on. And for the reason that they have already drop tested it, I will not test it again on this review. I will just take their word for it :)

Cons: None

Overall Review: I first plugged it to my PC and was glad that it didn't ask to install any software like other external hard drives I had before. My first task was to copy a 1G avi video from the desktop to the drive - 10.3 seconds. Copying back from the A15 to the PC took a little longer at 13.7 seconds. I ran the Crystal Disk Mark and it posted read at 123 MB/s and write at 121 MB/s for a simple test. As for real world test I transferred 12 Gigs of all kinds of files from my Dropbox folder to the drive - 4 mins and 32 seconds. Using BlackMagicDesign for speed test, the drive was roaring on my Mac Air with read at 345 MB/s 9 and even up to 540.0 MB/s and writes at 327 MB/s. A 1.47 Gbs movie copies at 13.81 seconds to the drive and copied back at 12.5 seconds. Quick specs: - 1 TB - USB 3.o - 2.5" drive - One-touch back-up (which I couldn't care less) - Win, Mac & Linux compatible - Weight: 200g - I cannot find any data on the RPM A sample of this product was sent to me for review purposes.

Most Critical Review

It may work (just no every time)

CTA PAD-POTTY iPad(R) with Retina(R) display/iPad(R) 3rd Gen/iPad(R) 2 iPotty
CTA PAD-POTTY iPad(R) with Retina(R) display/iPad(R) 3rd Gen/iPad(R) 2 iPotty

Pros: This is a very interesting concept. The iPotty is a cute name, but no worry they probably didn't get a letter from Apple's lawyers - maybe not interested at this time? :) First of all I'll discuss the product construction. It took me just 5 minutes to put this thing together. The direction is pretty easy to follow, you don't need any tools except you hands. There is a screen protector included, make sure to remove first a thin cellophane that protects both side of the protector. Once they are removed, the iPad control is very responsive. The Ipad snaps perfectly into place. There are two straps that button snaps at the back of the panel to hold it secure. If you are sitting a boy, no problem, the green detachable cup in front is really a splash protector, snap it in front of the boy so he won't go peeing all over the place. Now, when my kids were much younger, sometimes they will sit there forever and still nothing will be happening. They will get fidgety and always want to get off the seat before they were done. With an iPad in front of them, that might have helped them to stay longer and finish the business they were doing. Now that we have a home childcare (they ranges from 1 to 2 1/2) we noticed that it does help a bit encouraging them to sit and stay longer. But sometimes they get too absorbed that they distract their attention and lost the urge.

Cons: - the included screen protector is very responsive, but makes it very hard to press the home button. - if the child gets to immersed on an app, sometimes it can also become a distraction.

Fast and lots of gigs for the money

Silicon Power 32GB Blaze B30 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SP032GBUF3B30V1K)
Silicon Power 32GB Blaze B30 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SP032GBUF3B30V1K)

Pros: This is one speedy USB 3.0 drive. I plugged it on my Windows PC and Macbook Air transferring and copying files. On my Mac Air it took only 12.1 seconds to copy a 1.43 Gigs movie file. Copying back from the USB drive to the laptop is even faster at it clocked at 7.31 seconds. I did a quick 500MB Crystal Disk Mark test and it shows read at 218 MB/s and write at 88.81 MB/s. The USB dongle is shiny black with diamond pattern. It can easily be hanged on your keychain. The swivel metal cover is an easy way protect the contacts without having to worry of losing any cap.

Cons: Not very low profile

Overall Review: I was shopping for a similar 32G USB drive a year ago. I couldn't find anything for under 30$ even for a USB 2.0. Amazing how the price for this goes for under twenty at the time of this review. A sample of this product was sent to me for review purposes.

Combined with the right software, my new Tripmate is just an incredibly amazing gizmo

HooToo TripMate HT-TM01 Wireless N150 Portable Travel Router / 6000mAh External Battery Pack
HooToo TripMate HT-TM01 Wireless N150 Portable Travel Router / 6000mAh External Battery Pack

Pros: Multiple use gizmo Power bank Router NAS (Network Attached Storage) Repeater Video streamer

Cons: Weak as a repeater

Overall Review: How it stacks up: - Power Bank - 5,200 mAh is impressive for a combination router, charger and NAS. I have power banks with the same size but doesn't do anything except as a plain dumb charger. 5,200 mAh can charge my phone more than 2 times. - Router - this is very beneficial in places like hotels that doesn't have WiFis but has an ethernet connection. You can plug it and instantly create your own secured WiFi. - Repeater - If you find any areas in your house where internet connection is spotty, either it is too far from your main router or partially blocked by thick walls, you can strategically place a repeater in between the main router to extend your WiFI signal. Alas, the Tripmate doesn't do well in this area. The range is paltry and it practically dies when it encounter walls. No surprise there as it doesn't have any powerful antennas. - NAS (Network Attached Storage) - this is where it really shines. I have three kids, 2 boys and a girl, one is a teenager, so naturally they prefer different types of movies. I installed OPlayer App (OPlayer Lite is free with ads and OPlayer HD is 4.99$. If you have multiple iPads on the same account, you only pay one time) and was amazed that it can play almost anything. 80% of my movies are MKVs, some are MP4s, some are MOVs and others are AVIs. They play almost without any buffering. Take note, I don't have 1080P movies in this hard drive (mostly 720P HDs) so I haven't tried if it will have problems playing on multiple devices in Bluray quality. But still, this little device and a hard drive is an amazing portable wireless media player. Using OPlayer: - Connect the USB hard drive to Tripmate - Press the power button for 3 seconds or until the LEDs light up. Wait until the green LED become steady. - Connect your devices to Tripmate's own WiFi. Password is '11111111' - Open the OPlayer app and within the apps' menu press the browser (world icon) and type 10.10.10.254 on the URL - Click Explorer icon on the bottom left (not the Disk). Navigate to your folders and select the movie to watch. Click Open icon on upper right. It will ask you if you want to play or download. Click play. Done.

Very decent sound - with robust Bluetooth ver4.0

Arctic Coooling S113BT Portable Bluetooth Speaker-Black
Arctic Coooling S113BT Portable Bluetooth Speaker-Black

Pros: Arctic enters in much reasonable price than the more popular Jawbone with similar features and convenience plus it brings in Bluetooth 4.0 for an incredible BT power efficiency.

Cons: The Arctic S113BT sounds unnatural when playing at louder volume.

Overall Review: Great sound from a tiny brick speaker. As long as I don't crank it up too loud, this speaker produce rich and pleasing music in my bedroom and bathroom. A number of speakers in the market have similar configuration, including the much more popular 130-150$ Jawbone. It has rugged rubber casing and metal grill protecting the speakers. The S113BT competes at a more affordable price. It has a handsome zippered case with pockets for the the included microUSB cable and a 3.5 mm audio cable to attach to the auxiliary input. Quick Specs: - Bluetooth 4.0 (this what makes it possible for the manufacturer to claim 700 hrs in standby mode) - Frequency response - 30 Hz to 20 KHz - total of 6W output from (2) 1.5" speakers - 4 ohms - 1200 mAh battery - 8 hrs playback time Controls: Pairing - press the middle button for 8 seconds until LED lights flashes red and blue Pause and Play - short press of the middle button Volume - one short press of either button "-" and "+" Music advance - long press of either button "-" and "+" Answer and End call - short press of the middle button Ignore call - long press of the middle button Jawbone no doubt is a great speaker and is superior in audio quality. The Arctic S113BT sounds unnatural when playing at louder volume. Arctic then enters in much reasonable price with similar features and convenience plus it brings in Bluetooth 4.0 for an incredible BT power efficiency. Almost burnt hole on my wall

TaoTronics ThorLite TT-TF03 Professional Tactical Flashlight, Cree XM-L U2 LED 900Lumens, 6 Modes, IPX-8 Waterproof, T6061 Aircraft Aluminum
TaoTronics ThorLite TT-TF03 Professional Tactical Flashlight, Cree XM-L U2 LED 900Lumens, 6 Modes, IPX-8 Waterproof, T6061 Aircraft Aluminum

Pros: Pros: - intense powerful light - flawless construction - IP-X8 waterproof up to 2 meters

Cons: Cons: - you cannot zoom or focus the light - it has a hotspot in the middle with a halo surrounding it

Overall Review: It didn't come with batteries so you have to be aware of that if you are buying one. It is important to know beforehand because it doesn't run on regular AA or C batteries. You will have to order 2 x 18650 batteries or 4 CR123 batteries. I bought 2 x 18650 batteries (get something that come with a charger) for about 10-15 bucks. Oh boy, this is burning light on my wall. The detail on this light is amazing. Not one corner I found has any imperfection except for a little paint chip inside when I open the flashlight. All throughout, the anodization is flawless. The reflector is clean as a whistle. I guess the logo is all right, it is not too big and obtrusive. The only other written letters are a warning on the base of the reflector that the metal can turn very hot which can be if used in an extended length of time. The head is big a heavy and can serve as a self-defense weapon if it needs be. The bottom part has sharper ridges that you can use to break glass for emergency if somebody got trapped inside a car. The light comes with extra rubber O-rings, spare rubber tip for the switch, a small button magnet (don't know what exactly it is for but my guess is it can be used to extend the battery terminals contact point if it doesn't reach enough) and a short manual. Also comes with a beautiful rugged and tough holster that can be belt mounted.
