ARCTIC Alpine 64 Pro Rev. 2 CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA
  • neweggOwned For: less than 1 day

2 out of 5 eggs Connection lost and overheated 09/04/2012

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Pro Rev. 2 CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: Keeps system at 23ºC on idle. 40ºC on load.
Pre-applied thermal pad.

Cons: It seems I have bad luck when it comes to heatsinks. That or it's just coincidence that every heatsink I've bought managed to be incompatible with AM3 sockets, which should give you an idea of how this got such a bad review from me. The instructions say to clip the hook onto the latch like every heatsink should, however that wasn't the case. There's no possible way to get the heatsink to clamp onto the latch without it being completely loose. So I hoped that the thermal grease and the pressure of the heatsink against the bracket would keep it in place because there was no other option to mounting the heatsink. Soon after turning off my system, I hit 100ºC in under two seconds. Hooray.

So now I have to keep my tower on its side to ensure that this thing keeps contact with the CPU.

Other Thoughts: I bought this from another website if you're wondering why I don't have a verified ownership title, but I'm reviewing it here because there's more people here to make an impact on.

2 out of 5 eggs Incompatible 08/26/2012

This review is from: ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: I don't know, I couldn't use it.

Cons: Well, as already said by some other reviews, this CPU cooler is incompatible with AM3+ sockets, even though it said that it is compatible.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping that the stories about AM3+ sockets not working were false and that I'd have better luck, especially considering that it says that it's compatible with AM3+ sockets and that others said that they've had success with them.

Time to RMA.

Acer V193WEJb Black 19
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: - Nice and bright
- Easy to use settings menu

Cons: - Dead Pixel
- Seems slightly tilted and cannot be adjusted
- Stand seems unsteady and shakes quite significantly when I'm typing.

Other Thoughts: The dead pixel is slightly lower and to the left of center screen, so it can be easily noticed if I'm looking at anything bright. I don't mind it though, it works as a monitor should otherwise.
