Asus VE248H Black 24

Pros: The monitors were/are very affordable given their specs. The display is vibrant and bright.

The VESA Wall Mounting is a great feature allowing me to suspend them above my desk with a monitor mount.

No dead pixels :)

Cons: The speakers are very quiet and shouldn't be part of the decision making process when purchasing this monitor. Get a dedicated speaker system if that's a concern.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these in 2012 and I'm looking at getting a third and possibly a fourth. I'm very happy with the two I purchased.

ZOTAC AMP! GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) DirectX 11 ZT-50402-10L 1GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Great price especially for when I bought it.

Cons: I have owned this card for 18 months but suddenly the card started experiencing over heating issues. Initially I thought it was poor airflow in my case, so I blew the dust out of my fans and chassis hoping that it would resolve the relatively high idle temp (50-60 C).

Over the course of the following month, I noticed my temps steadily climbing into the 70s when playing various games (namely Total War Shogun 2).

Then suddenly launching any application that utilizes the GPU shoots the temperature into the 90s. At which point I immediately end the application to save the graphics card.

I suspect the thermal paste between the GPU and heatsink to be bad but instead of reapplying it myself, I decided to contact Zotac about the issue first (so not to void any warranty I might have). The initial ticket was quickly resolved by pointing me to an RMA request (took one business day) however Zotac has not followed up with the RMA in two weeks and it still states "Pending".

18 months is a very short lifespan for a graphics card, I would suspect their products to be better designed (and I see that this is a reoccurring issue with other people on the Zotac forums.)

If Zotac resolves my issue, I will be sure to change my review to reflect that. I understand hardware fails, it's how the company treats their customers in those situations that can save their reputation.

Other Thoughts: Although the price was very affordable, I don't think I would purchase from Zotac again at this point in time.

PC Power & Cooling ModXStream Pro Series 700 Watt 80+ Semi-Modular Active PFC Performance Grade ATX PC Power Supply (OCZ700MXSP)
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Bought this on sale + rebate, so assuming the rebate comes with no problems, it was a bargain!

Modular & 700W

Cons: I put this in a bottom mounting PSU mid-tower chassis, and all the cables reached but some are a close call. This isn't so much a con with the PSU as it is with the case (I don't typically get bottom mounted PSU cases)
