WD Red 4TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD40EFRX
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: High capacity, optimized for RAID

Cons: These drives appear to have a high failure rate. Two of four drives received failed. One was DOA and never came up. The second failed to synch into the array.
It is a small sample size, but I didn't expect a 50% failure rate. The Seagate 4TB NAS drives I bought had a 0% failure rate.

Western Digital Black WD2001FASS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5

1 out of 5 eggs Warranty is worth the paper it is not printed on 04/09/2012

This review is from: Western Digital Black WD2001FASS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Drive performs well.

Cons: Western Digital will not honor the five year warranty on this item. WD claims my serial number is a one-year warranty item. NewEgg is clear on the "Overview" that this drive carries a five year limited warranty. However, WD will not honor that warranty.
So much for paying more for the "black" drive and a five year warranty.

I specifically bought this product because of the five year warranty. I feel cheated by WD.

The failure rate seems a little higher than expected for a high-end product.
