useful

StarTech.com SATA22PEXT 1 ft. 22 Pin SATA Power and Data Extension Cable
StarTech.com SATA22PEXT 1 ft. 22 Pin SATA Power and Data Extension Cable

Pros: Very useful when you are moving drives around on laptops. This extension can stay plugged in under the laptop and you can connect the drive without having to flip over the system to get access.

Cons: none

don't buy it for the 6Gb/s controllers

ASRock P55 EXTREME4 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock P55 EXTREME4 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: pros are still the same as in my previous reveiw "nice board" below.

Cons: I've determined that the 6Gb/s (Marvel) controller is in fact slower than the (Intel) 3Gb/s for single drives (3 or 6 Gb/s). Worse, in an RAID0 configuration, the Intel controller is 2x faster than the Marvel, which is no quicker with the RAID0 than with a single drive. While the Marvel controller appears to be no marvel in its incarnations on other motherboards (not too bad on my Gigabyte X58-U5, but see various forum comments elsewhere), the AsRock implimentation is particularly poor. The 6Gb/s controllers work, but give a negative speed advantage over the Intel drive controllers and terrible for RAID0 (that's why we bought them, right?).

Performs as advertised

WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5"/7mm Solid State Drive - WDS100T2B0A
WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5"/7mm Solid State Drive - WDS100T2B0A

Pros: I bought two of these and installed them in a Raid 0 configuration in order to speed up loading of large image files that I use. Worked fine, CDM reports read speeds of ~1000MB/s and writes of ~900MB/s, and my image files open almost instantly--just as I wanted. I didn't try any of the software so I can't comment on that.

Cons: Obviously costs, but on a good sale they are tolerable.

failed already, after less than six months

WD Black 6TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD6002FZWX
WD Black 6TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD6002FZWX

Pros: large capacity for backups--if you dare

Cons: put backups on it and lose them all

Overall Review: After less than six months of only occassionaly operation as a backup drive, it has failed and taken all my backups with it. Even the BIOS won't recognize its existance on two different machines, when other drives are recognized on the exact same connectors. I'm so unimpressed, is there any quality control any longer?

more Chinese garbage

Rosewill RL-CL3001-3P - Candle Light Non-Dimmable LED Light Bulb - E12 Base, 3 Watts (Replaces 25W Bulb) 230 Lumens, UL CE RoHS, 3000K, Warm White, 3-Pack

Pros: low power, good light output

Cons: Two out of three are dead already. So much for the 25,000hr lifetime Update 11/1/17, the third one is now dead.

Disappointing performance

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SV300S37A/120G
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SV300S37A/120G

Pros: It was on sale (~35 dollars), and it works.

Cons: Everyone's SSDs seem to claim the performance specs as "up to" ~500MB/s for both read and write. Same claim for this drive, but in the four systems that I recently built with Intel B150 MB chip sets and i3-6100 cpus, I've gotten disappointing write speeds of only ~1/5 of the claimed spec. Got the drives on sale, and at the same time three PNY CS1311 drives of the same capacity for ~40 dollars each. The write speed of the Kingston drives are very slow in comparison, only 1/5 of the PNYs (which do perform at their spec) in these otherwise identical systems. Since the systems are identical I can swap the drives back and forth to confirm that something silly wasn't happening to slow the Kingstons. They are just slow.

Overall Review: shop for other drives at this same price point and you can get better performance.

they will cheat you on the shipping

"free shipping" doesn't mean much when you have to go to the post office and pay for the shipping charges that they didn't cover. Seems like a common complaint with this company
