Rosewill RC-212 VIA PCI SATA 1.5G / IDE ATA 133 Controller Card / Supports Raid 0, 1, 0+1, JBOD, non-RAID mode

Pros: * worked flawlessly to flash the firmware on my x360 dvd drive * inexpensive

Cons: * none - did exactly what i needed it to do for me well worth the money

Pros: Cheap, very reasonable speeds, comes with cables for every situation.

Cons: There are no Windows 7 drivers on Rosewill's site. I had to read through 7 pages of reviews to find someone else's review saying you had to get them from VIA's website. I wanted to post another review so people trying this with Windows 7 don't pull their hair out!

Pros: Flawless install, does just what it is supposed to do. External SATA a plus. Includes all necessary cables and a half-height bracket as well. NewEgg does not have this bracket listed in the description or product images, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Cons: Internal and External SATA ports cannot be used simultaneously. (2 internal, 1 internal 1 external, 2 external) When using mirroring (RAID 1) the card BIOS reports no RAID set found on post screen. Inside the BIOS utility and the Windows application the set is found as defined. This is common to other VIA RAID chipsets so not a problem with this card in particular. Lacking header on the card for an activity LED.

Overall Review: Picked this up to add a mirrored RAID array to a server as well as eventually flash my Xbox 360 DVD drive. Simple to use if you've ever worked with RAID (such as mobo on-board) in the past. No problems taking an existing HDD and adding this card to the mix, then built a mirror set. Didn't try the Rosewill drivers, went with the recommendations of others and pulled down the VIA drivers from VIAArena. NewEgg needs to add the half-height bracket to the description and images. Availability of such brackets is something important to me and many other customers when dealing with non-standard workstation designs. (Dell, etc.)

Overall Review: I wrote an earlier review criticizing the card and the slow first response from Rosewill. They responded shortly thereafter and we tried the standard solutions - latest drivers, latest ROM. This was ineffective so they are RMAing a replacement. All in all, their support was actually quite commendable for a $25 product. Thank you Rosewill.

Pros: great customer service

Cons: I wrote the review about the card saying that it didn't work for RAID-1. This is an addendum to say that although I was disappointed with the card, I'm not with Newegg or Rosewill. Both companies have great customer service. Rosewill offered to send me a replacement card. Newegg offered me full refund for it. I now have confidence that if I buy something from Newegg or Rosewill and it doesn't work, I will be made whole.

Pros: This adapter will allow you to flash ANY xbox 360 dvd drive if your computer doesn't have a compatible SATA chipset for using flashing apps. NOTE: Before using this adapter to flash xbox 360 drives.. using windows 7, after windows installs drivers for this device make sure you disable this adapter in device manager > delete "vsmraid.sys" from "C :\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\" > then enable the adapter so that a yellow caution symbol is displayed next to the device name (This will prevent flashing apps like JungleFlasher from freezing during flashing process). Comes with two 4-pin power plug to SATA power plug adapter cables. Comes with two SATA data cables. Comes with an Ultra IDE port. Works great! Best VIA card I found!

Cons: Can only use 2 SATA ports at a time and need to change jumper positions if you wish to use the external ports (Default settings are both internal ports=enabled and both external ports=disabled)

Overall Review: Sucks I paid $24.99 for mine and now it's only $14.99 :-(

Pros: Worked great for what I needed for. It worked right away in Vista 64, I didn't even need to install drivers, it didn't even pop up new hardware, it just showed up in my device manager like its been there all this time. I love having the option to have external sata ports. It is sooo convenient for what I need it for without having to open and close the case.

Cons: I guess some people noted that it does not have esata connector. Separate purchase. Only two ports can be used at a time.

Overall Review: Be sure to set the jumpers on the card if you want to use the external ports. Comes default with internal ports enabled. The regular sata port works awesome for Xbox 360. Just hook up a regular SATA cable and you are GTG. BTW if you use the external ports. Be sure to hook up the cable to the port closest to the motherboard.

Pros: Fairly easy to install and get running. Quick to receive from Newegg. This card was not hard to install. I needed to make a new SATA lightscribe DVD work in my Dell Optiplex system that only had one SATA port with a SATA hard drive already taking that spot. The DVD installed with the system was IDE. I decided to go this route and install the SATA PCI card to give my system more capabilities and allow for the SATA Lightscribe to function. Received the card in only two days. Was able to get my DVD Burner to work with it fairly quickly. It seems to work just OK and the data transfer was fast but using this card came with some issues to be weary about.

Cons: Taking it out of the box, I set the jumpers to what I needed (non-raid, 1 internal, 1 external SATA), installed the card and followed the directions for WinXP to load the drivers. Rebooted and immediately got the blue screen of death. Rebooted again and the system booted up the the Rosewill RC-212 bios. I had to hit F1 to get XP to come up. Then I shutdown, attached the Lightscribe and rebooted. Again the RC-212 bios comes up requiring the F1 to get into Windows. That's a big CON as I sometimes have to reboot from remoting in to this PC and I won't be able to get pass that step. You should be able to get into Windows on a reboot without having to go through a BIOS key entry first. My system is now intermittently blue screening and hanging up. Four times in two weeks when I never had that before. My system has only been setup now for 3 months and never had a blue screen. I will call NewEgg and return this card and go for the SATA to IDE converter instead for my Lightscribe.

Overall Review: If you don't mind having to hit F1 on your keyboard everytime after a reboot or power up before your system will go into the OS, this card could be fine, if you get one that doesn't intermittently cause Windows to blue screen on you though.
