Pros: We are standardizing on Samsung drives for the majority of our computers. EVO or Pro series for laptops and workstations, Pro for servers. They are not necessarily the best performer in any single category, but the combination of features, performance, and service from Samsung top all other manufacturers.
The 850 EVO is fast, no questions about it. Naturally the small capacity (256 GB) version here isn't up to what you see from larger varieties, but it is impressive nonetheless. If you need faster speeds, either buy a larger drive or switch to Samsung's Pro line.
Samsung also supports full drive encryption and, for those of us in a business environment, it is TCG Opal 2.0 compliant as well.
Samsung's implementation of drive features, firmware upgrades, O/S optimization, etc. are seamless and well thought out. When new firmware is available, you just click through a dialog, reboot, and you're done. None of the rebooting to a recovery partition or USB stick as is required by some other vendors.
Samsung's support has been great as well. This particular drive lost its brain shortly after being installed. Samsung's support first emailed a couple of diagnostic tools and, when that proved unsuccessful, overnighted a replacement drive. We have had similar experiences with an Pro series drive that died prematurely, and it is nice to see that Samsung provides the same level of service in the consumer space.
The bundled software is actually useful. The Drive Magician is not a resource hog and offers optimization and performance benchmarking features. The drive migration software works auto-magically.
Cons: You do pay a slight premium for Samsung's performance and reliability.
Overall Review: Be aware that this is a bare drive. It does not come with spacers and screws to handle non-standard setups.
Another Quality Samsung Product5/14/2015 4:23:15 PM
Pros: The Samsung 850 EVO was very easy to install into a MSI GT70 2PC (Dominator) 894 US.
Replaced a Toshiba 128GB SSD (THNSNJ128GMCU) with the Samsung 850 EVO mSATA 1TB SSD.
The EVO is so much faster than the Toshiba. It feels like an old slow hard disk was replaced with this new shiny SSD.
Everything just starts faster: OS, games, apps.
EaseUS Partition Master was used to copy the old mSATA and HDD devices to the new SSD.
I could not be more pleased.
Cons: The font in the Samsung User Manual is so small, you almost need a magnifying glass to read it.
Cons: You only go from the hard drive to SSD once, so you get used to the SSD's speed and then wish it would go even faster.
Overall Review: No need to say something that has already been said before. Works great, and nice to use mSATA port if you have one as it then frees up your SATA drive for another SSD or large HDD. Speeds are as you would expect.
Pros: just what I expected from Samsung. Exact replacement but larger capacity for my series 7 slate A06US. First use of an MSATA SSD, very satisfied.
Cons: There aren't any.
Overall Review: Machine came with a puny 128 Gb SSD, now I have some room. Very fast shipping from Newegg, again as expected.
I would recommend this one to anyone needing an MSATA SSD.
Pros: Works fine so far. We use these for field service engineers running lots of VMs; they need the speed. This is the third one I've bought and they all seem to just work.
Worked great in my Dell Latitude 64401/7/2018 2:20:12 PM
Pros: Very speedy vs disk drive. MSATA format leaves room to keep the original hard drive. Easy install (after YouTube search) . No problems after a few months usage.
