Good investment 1/2/2018 4:48:49 PM

Pros: Plays modern games in max settings, some other demanding games can be played with mixed settings.
Card bought in 2013, today almost 5 years later, is still good.

Cons: The fans die quick. One of the stock fans started rattling after a few month of use. Bought a generic pair from china and lasted a few years with no issues. now i have to buy another pair. They're cheap tho so its OK

After so many years, this card is still expensive! 250-300+ bucks. thats crazy after 5yrs. i wanted to Xfire it so i can play any game today, but that price is crazy

2017 7/7/2017 8:38:38 AM

Pros: Still a great card in 2017. For a 1080p 60fps card, it holds up fairly well.

Cons: Pushing 1440p+ resolution and high fps in modern games wont be possible but what can you expect from a 5 year old card

2 years later 7/2/2015 4:31:43 PM

Pros: FAST. As of July 2015 I can still run any game with the graphics maxed out. Worst case scenerio is I have to slightly adjust settings within RadeonPro or the game options, but this card has never failed me with the newest games. I typically use little or no anti aliasing at 1080P and everything else maxed runs silky smooth.

Cons: LOUD. This card is really loud.. I use a soundproof Fractal case and It still made tons of noise while under stress. It wasn't until recently that I realized place the card so it stands vertically in you're case it will become much quieter.

***Anyone interested in this card try to build your PC so it will stand vertically instead of horizontally out of your motherboard (or do what i did and lay your PC case on its side) to reduce fan noise****

SOFTWARE. The options are more limited than Nvidia cards. Occasionally drivers won't be optimized as well as Nvidia resulting in occasional minor annoyances. A 3rd party like RadeonPro is necessary to really get under the hood.

Surprisingly, I've noticed newer releases run just as good and sometimes better than older games-- I think this is because programmers are writing more optimized game engines and drivers these days.

Overall Review: This card runs just about everything exceptionally well, both new and old. It's Mantle and DX12 capable (which further improves the cards performance as technology progresses).

I'm tempted to upgrade but as of July 2015 there's no actual need to spend the cash right now as this card is powering through everything i throw at it.

Specs: 8350FX, 7070 Sapphire, Asrock 990FX Extreme3 (with throttling disabled in BIOS), 16GB RAM, SSD + 7200 HDD

Great Card 6/10/2015 8:18:28 PM

Pros: Great pipeline utilization
Gets the 1's and 0's across quickly and efficiently
Every game, almost max settings

Cons: Has stopped running on me 5 times. Screen goes stripped, grey-red. Weird, but its probably from running too hot.

Overall Review: Its mid 2015, going to buy another one, instead of getting R9's.

Sapphire 100351SR Radeon HD 7970 3GB 3/1/2015 10:57:09 AM

Pros: It is a cheap(er) GPU for the power it puts out, does a good job under load.

Cons: One of the two fans went out after about roughly 6 months of use, as a result the other one works harder to cool GPU. The other fan has lasted until now and I bought it at the end of 2013 but I'm certain its not far behind.

Overall Review: However, it still works just fine not generating too much heat. I have no idea if fans going out is an issue (may be something worth looking into). I understand I've had mine for a decent amount of time. Still makes me sad :,(

Sapphire used to be a rock solid purchase! 2/23/2015 10:22:41 AM

Pros: Sapphire USED to be a step above the rest as far as quality and dependable durability.

Cons: Fans Suck!
Wanted to get replacement fans however warranty department wanted me to ship the whole card in rather than sending out replacement fans.
When asked for fan model number so I could replace them myself, they game me the run around and model number for the whole card and not the fans. Also recommended I use aftermarket coolers.
After my own research and disassembly I found the exact fans readily available online.

Overall Review: I no longer have Sapphire up on the pedestal, I look into other manufactures as well. I just built another PC this last weekend and it wasn't a sapphire cards I put in. :(

These Cards Changed My Life (literally) 9/29/2014 3:16:46 PM

Pros: These cards were, when I bought them, the best bang for the buck on the market. I thought I might as well not pussyfoot around, so I went ahead and bought two straight away. They have been everything I've needed, and overclock like absolute monsters. Sapphire also did a great job at making them aesthetically pleasing (if you're into that kind of thing, which I am).

Cons: My own stupidity: see other thoughts.

Overall Review: I was so excited about buying these cards, that I never measured my case first. I bought a new 1000W power supply to allow me to overclock with confidence, and when my package arrived I immediately ripped my old psu out. After installing my new psu, completely rewiring everything, zip-tying everything, and clipping the ties nice and neat, my friend and I gathered 'round to place the first beast into my machine.... and it was a full 2 inches too long to fit in my case.

Completely devastated, I sat down and ordered an Antec Twelve Hundred. After waiting a full week for my new case to arrive (reduced to using a laptop in the meantime), I finally had a case that could fit my two beautiful graphics cards. I tore everything out of my old case, put everything into my new case, rewired, and zip tied everything. I then came to the realization that these cards were such fatties that I could not fit my PCI wireless card into my machine. I threw my hands up and ordered a mini-PCI card. With that debacle settled, I tried to place my new computer under my desk, and WHAT DO YOU KNOW -- the case wouldn't fit under my desk.

Guys, I literally had to buy a new desk to fit these graphics cards.
Guys, I had to install a doorstop on the side of my case because the door leading into the next room kept hitting it.

The moral of the story here is that you should measure your case before you order new cards, or you might end up needing to buy a new house to fit them.

Not sure I will buy sapphire again 9/10/2014 1:44:15 PM

Pros: They are quite Powerful even after a year

Cons: I purchased 2 of these cards and ran in crossfire. I never got great performance out of them. Had a number of crashes in games and frame rates seemed low considering my PC. After about 6 months most games would not run if I had crossfire enabled. A few weeks ago I replaced my old PC and began to troubleshoot my graphics issues during that time. I found one of my cards would not run games at all, graphical distortions in all games. Computer components fail I deal with that all the time ordinary I would not write a negative review because of that.

However Sapphire has one of the most irritating RMA processes I've come across. Reminds me of the Chaintech days in the early 2000's. They email you every other day after you fill out the initial RMA on their website, basically answering the same question that were in the original ticket except asking them now one or two questions a time almost to drag out the process. You have to send the Invoice multiple times and fill out part numbers and model numbers many times. Its a very antiquated RMA system. However the 7970 is plenty powerful and I still have one running strong so it not a big deal its just annoying and needlessly time consuming.

Overall Review: Original PC
PSU 950 Watt PC Power and Cooling
RAM 32 GB DDR3 at 1600
CPU AMD 8350
GPU 2 7970 crossfire
Disk 2 Samsung 256 GB 840 Raid 0
