Scythe offers high end features and performance at value prices. The MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 has options found on many more expensive coolers. The four-sided high-density aluminum fins offers installation for 4 fans if you need, which will maximize its heat dissipation. It has 4 large exposed pure copper heatpipes at its nickel-plated copper base which has direct contact with the CPU for efficient thermal conduction.
Designed to attach easily to the motherboard of all Intel LGA1366, 775, Socket 478 and AMD Socket AM2, AM2+, 940, 939, and 754 CPUs, the MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 is ready to go right out of the box. No tools are required, nor do you have to remove the motherboard The low noise cooler radiates a maximum of 26.5dB so it will be barely noticeable in your system. It is a great choice for overclockers!
Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling PerformanceThe copper base and 5 copper heatpipes conduct heat fast; high-density and innovative designed nickel-plated copper fins maximize heat dissipation area, plus a 120mm 1200PRM sleeve bearing fan to deliver optimal cooling performance.
Universal Compatibility and Reliable InstallationThe latest developed F.M.S.B. (Flip Mount Super Back-Plate) improves the compatibility of the Mugen 2 cooler, which is compatible with all the current sockets, including the new Intel Socket LGA 1366. Plus the new system supplies a back plate mounting set for more stable installation.
New Designed Fan Mount StructureThe new design enables it possible to mount the supplied fan in four different directions. So the user can arrange the air flow at will without taking the whole CPU cooler off the motherboard. A total number of 4 fans can be mounted for the maximum performance.
Multiple Airflow Pass-Through StructureThe new lamellar structure realizes the airflow generated by the Scythe Slip Stream being used completely and perfectly.
Pros: I have AMD Phenom 9850 2.5GHz with stock cooling. I never cared about the CPU temperature since the stock cooling was big, had 4 copper pipes and the base is made out of copper. When I played games in Summer for an hour or more, the computer would slow down and freeze from time to time. Then I went to my mother board website and downloaded the temperature regulator utility and got a reading of 50C CPU temperature in IDLE. Now I know 70C is where I should worry about so 50C is not a problem, but still I did not like it at all. So I bought this cooler and installed it (1 hour process). When I turned on my computer and went to the BIOS the CPU temperature was 25C . I wanted to get my eyes checked by the doctor but I asked my bro to take a look at it to verify that my eyes were not deceiving me. Then I went to windows and the temperature went down to 23C at IDLE and the operating system is running more stable with no freeze up in game. How could a simple cooler do so much!!!
Cons: Installation is a little hard but it's fun. For AM2+ I started from the Heat Sink then worked my way to the mother board. If you have extra set of hands then it becomes easy to install. You will have to take out the entire mother board in order to install this heat sink. Also if you want to upgrade your CPU then you will have to take out the mother board again for AM2+ Depending on your case you may not be able to close it if you have a side fan (Full Tower). I took off the side fan from the inside and installed it to the outside and the problem is solved :)
Overall Review: The heat sink secures very nicely and tight. After you install it you get the secure feeling that you can not take it off easily unless you take out the mother board. Since its all screw in, you get to choose how tight (making it very tight is not recommended) or loose you want it. And the screw are long enough to reach every ends. The Arctic Silver thermal past is not high quality (not Arctic Silver 5) but hey 23C is more then what I asked for from air cooling (I am not complaining). I most definitely recommend this product because its worth the effort after seeing the result and the price is just right. [I wish newegg.com allowed posing images with feed back]
