Scythe SY124010L 40mm Chipset Fan

Pros: So quiet, it was like it was not even there. I could not hear it with the other fans running. Moves an adequate amount of air for Northbridge/Southbridge use. Comes with hard to find 2-oin female connector required by some motherboards. Also comes with a 2-pin to 3-pin adaptor.

Cons: My Northbridge has heatsink with fan mounted using 4 screws torqued down between the heatsink fins. The corner holes in this new fan were a very tight fit for the mounting screws. Installation would have been easier if I had used a drill to make them slightly bigger.

Overall Review: My MB has 2-pin connection for Northbridge fan. I bought this fan for that reason. I wanted a ball bearing fan but none come with the 2-pin connector. It would be nice to find a quality ball bearing 40mm fan with connectors/adaptors for MBs requiring either 2-pin or 3-pin.

Pros: This little fan fit my NB well and runs quietly. It dropped my hot-to-the-touch NB to a more managable temp. So far, so good.

Cons: Didn't come with screws. That would have been a plus, but perhaps the general nature of the fan precludes this option.

Overall Review: This is perhaps the lowest $$ fix for a hot North Bridge. I used it on a Gigabyte 965P board and it helped to lower overall system temps.

Pros: It was quiet! Got 3 Athena Power 5" bay HDD mounts and swapped the noisy default fans with these! Really quiet and enough air flow to keep them about 44 degrees! I tested these for more than a month before I'm writing this review. Working great so far!

Cons: None. But I bought the SilenX 40x40x10's before I found this one on Newegg (what a waste...). The SilenX's are just too unreliable... GET THESE INSTEAD!

Overall Review: As above, I first tried the SilenX 40x40x10's. They were really quiet for a month or so... but then they started to give off that broken fan sound, which sounded like a small car specially when all 3 started to go off... and they were $13 bucks a piece!! These Scythes are comparatively quieter and seems much more reliable! DON'T GET the SilenX IXP-11-14s!!! GET THESE instead!

Pros: Nearly silent

Overall Review: I super-glued this to my mobo's chipset heatsink and it solved my video problem in warm weather (compact Acer). Video Card Stability Test now runs with no blanking out. I have long used super-glue to attach old power-supply fans to CPUs (quiet) and it has never failed. You can easily pop them off with a flat piece of metal.

Pros: Very quite! would buy another one soon

Cons: Need to buy your own screws!! still gave 5 eggs for the low noise

Overall Review: Bought two to replace fans in two Linksys EG008W switches. Same power draw and size as the existing fans only these are dead silent. If anyone else is thinking about replacing noisy 40mm fans these are the ones to buy!

Pros: Replaced another 40mm fan that sound like a buzzsaw, this thing is inaudible. Moves a ton of air considering its size.

Cons: Excessive and unecological hard plastic packaging.

Overall Review: Used this tiny fan to replace the noisy one of my areca ARC-1210 PCI-Express x8 SATA II Controller Card. Use the fanless heatsink, take double face tape to cover the center of the fan and screw it on. Works great.

Pros: Much quieter than other fans of this size. Exceptional CFM for such a small fan. Comes with a 3-pin adapter. I utilized this fan on the chipset of an MSI K9N SLI Platinum board. Keeps the chipset temp down where it should be (these chipsets are known to run very hot).

Cons: No Screw included. Very slow shipping, 3-day shipping never seems to work for my location. Item took 5 business days to arrive.
