It should not need drivers. However, you have not provided enough information. Are you not seeing the drive in the BIOS, or in the OS? If not in the BIOS, you may need a BIOS update or the drive may be defective. If you see it in the BIOS and not in the OS, then it depnds on *which* OS you are using. If it is Windows, you may need to initialize the drive.

No.  Stick to 2.5" for that.  It's just physically too large.

Is this good for storing large excess files (lots of photos and other things) other than just nas, and also is this the same drive that's in the Seagate - Expansion 8 TB External Hard Drive (STEB8000100)?

It's funny you ask this I have had this particular Drive for nine months now and just this weekend I did another surface scan to verify the discs integrity. This is used on a system for security cameras so it is completely written about once a month. At the time of my scan all three of the drives that I have purchased at this time had no errors whatsoever however be aware these drives run a lot hotter then the Western Digital greens that I populated my system with of the same size. The heat they created was enough that my current system configuration couldn't handle it. I had to separate those drives into a different enclosure that had better airflow. With all that said and do the price I actually would still buy again

would this be good for a nas ?

It is not designed for continuous use, but should work in a nas environment, throughout the 2 year warranty.  Unless there is built in obsolesce, these drives should work in a nas until they die, assuming you write less than 55 TB per year per specs.

What sort of cables will I need to plug this in? I already have a SATA cable with multiple attachment points coming off my motherboard.

You'll need an SATA port and cable (sounds like you have it) as well as a power connector from the power supply. Power off, connect it up and boot then create the partition in software after the boot and good to go. I have one myself.

Question 7

I recently purchased this 8TB hard drive and installed it and formatted it. It seemed to work fine and now during transfer of files from another hdd to this new hdd I am receiving an I/O error. This doesn't happen all the time, sometimes a file transfer is good and sometimes I get these I/O errors on the new hdd. Any idea what could be wrong?

If you have a third drive, try moving documents from that drive to this one and look for the error, if it happens then you have bad sectors on this drive. If it doesn't, repeat with the other drive. There are very few possible causes for this, either bad sectors in one of your drives, bad cables, or less likely faulty motherboard(very less likely)
