"bare drives" normally  o not come with cable "retail kits) do. and don't be fooled by expensive sata 3 (6gb)vs sata 2 (3gb) cables.  as of now all sata data cables contain the same 7 wires.  the only real difference, if any,  is the shielding of the wires to prevent noise interference (which i think is electron leaking between the wires).  however, its possible that 1 company's sata 2 cable has better shielding than anothers  sata 3

What extra components will I need to get since this is just a Bare Drive?

Hello fellow customer, The reason I purchased this Bare HDD is for a new PC build in which I would be connecting this drive to a SSD. If you dont have a newer Power Supply that came with a few extra cables, you may have to acquire a flat SATA cable for the data and a Power cable. If your mother board has a 6gbp/Sec.3.0 SATA Port on the Mobo, you will see really decent speeds from this drive. If your Mobo is not newer, you may have a 3gbP/Sec 2.0SATA Port which still will have ok speeds because the SeaGate is a 7200RPM not 5600. If you have a SSD you could configure the 2 together and create a larger cache which would give you the speed desired from a SSD with some of the benefits of the Storage capacity that the 1TB Barracuda offers-Kinda like having the best of both worlds in my opinion, hOPE This Helps.

could this model replaces & compatible with my bad drive ( Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5 Internal Hard Drive ) and work well with my sony desktop I bought 4 years ago ?

The new drive should be totally compatible. The old drive is out of production is only available used or limited qty new from ebay folks. We have made this same switch in our NAS with no problems. If in doubt, go to the Sony sight and see if they have a recommended HD list.

This is not compatible with a laptop because it is too large (physically) to fit inside. It is 3.5 inches wide, laptop hard drives are 2.5 inches wide. It may be used, however, thru the use of an external adapter as an external storage drive.

Will this hard drive work in a Toshiba Satellite C55-A5309 laptop?

Since Most Laptops require 2.5 I do not think this 3.5 will work in 
any Laptop. Look in the "Hardware" section of the Toshiba Laptop
to see what is currently installed there.

This may be a stupid question, but thank you if you answer, I am trying to figure out parts for my first PC.  If you purchase a HDD, like this one, and purchase a SSD, what do you put on each drive?  I'm wondering because, I don't know if I need one or not, and if I do what to do store on them.  If I get a 1 TB HDD, how much storage would I need to get on my SSD?  If there is any other information I need to know for a first time builder and helpful tips, let me know please.

Load the OS software on the the ssd then search NEW EGG for ssd confiuration and configuer the SSD properly since MS wont turn off features that arent recomended for the SDD. Shut down add the HDD.  Blistering fast. Once you get use to an SSD its frustrationg to use a HDD. My recomedation is to just but an SSD large enough for everything. I run a 250 SSD and after 1 year it is still peeling ruber. So fast you dont  even realize the screen as changed sometimes. Boot 12 seconds.

Yes, it even allows you to create RAID setups on sata 3. Most sata 6 drives are backwards compatible with sata 3 systems nowadays.

I am very happy with The Seagate Hard Drive I bought it from New Egg. It response well, Performs well, and is fast and efficient. The thing for me is Seagate products have a great life expectancy. For me less "Down Time" is important.

So I'm looking at buy one of neweggs already build-ed computers and it comes with this hard drive and i was wondering if it comes with windows xp,7 or 8 already on it??

No, the drive is/was blank when I got it. The specific drive I got needed to be formatted before use; Not only was there not an Operating system, there was no file system.
