Pros:
- Fast boot times after a few boots
- Application load times are faster (photoshop, lightroom, games)
I intensively use my computer by load, re-loading applications. Any hard drive I have owned I can kill it (if cheap) before a year is up due to the heavy usage. I replaced my WD VelociRaptor with this drive. I wanted to see how a hybrid would fair against a 15,000 RPM mechanical drive. I have always used "Raptors" as my primary choice for boot drives. This drive is keeping par and exceeding the VelociRaptor.
If you have a 5400 or 7200 RPM drive you will and should notice a huge increase in performance, the only thing faster than this would be a full-SSD drive. The bang for your dollar with this hybrid is worth the transition.
Cons:
- none so far.
I don't hear any clicks or unusual noises coming from the drive. My drive is actually mounted on the top of the box in an angled slot for ease of access. Any noise from a drive in that top slot would be very noticeable. Pretty quiet so far.
Overall Review:
- Always buy on Newegg. Why? if you read other reviews you will see the manufactures read these reviews. You get very top-notch responses from their customer service teams. Other sites, best of luck.
- Always buy something that is rugged (hard drive wise). I have seagate NAS drives as my other "storage" drives that sit inside the box. Why? NAS made hard drives are made to take higher tolerances in heat and activity.
UPDATE: almost 3 years to the purchase date, the drive is failing. I've RMA'd a replacement thankfully still under manufacturer warranty. I won't be doing any more hybrid drives. Not due to this drive's failure but SSDs are now cheap enough to replace mechanical ones.
Pros: Two physical pieces of technology eventually did make it to my house.
Cons: Once again I had to engage Newegg to poke at this vendor to get a response. These hard drives are not SSHDs. They sent Seagate Firecudas. Thanks?
Overall Review: The product is probably fine, if it exists somewhere. I do not advocate people use the Newegg marketplace function. It is riddled with fraud and confusion.
Pros:
Seems reliable (had mine for about 2 years now)
Gets faster if you have repeat launches in the same boot
The price I was able to get it at was amazing for a 4TB
Cons:
A little loud (could be my case type and position isn't helping)
Not quite as fast as an SSD
I don't think you can actually find this anymore at a decent price (outdated)
Overall Review: If you can get this for about the price of a 7200 RPM 4TB buy it immediately, but seeing as how its been "replaced" by a newer model (that I haven't found for more than 2 TB) it seems less and less likely.
Pros: I bought this nearly 5 years ago and it's been running 24/7 ever since, as a media server controller.
Cons: None
Pros: NONE.
Cons:
This thing won't even register. It was dead on arrival.
I'd read a few other reviews that said theirs was DOA, but I have two other identical drives. Well, the "wrapping" this drive came in tells the story. It looks like someone pulled this out of an existing computer, shrink wrapped it, bubble wrapped it, and threw it into a cardboard box.
Prob a bad refurb being sold as a new HD. What a ripoff.
Pros: New Egg had a great prices on this driver. Thought I woild replace my failing drive with a spanking new one and breathe new life into my aging Lenovo tower. Given the fact that this was a Seagate drive replacing another Seagate drive, it would be a breeze using Seagate software
Cons:
Drive arrived DOA. Plugged it into several interfaces withj different cables, even using the cable from the failing drive. The drive was never recognized by the BIOS, nor the OS, nor Seagate's software.
Had to pay my own shipping to send the drive back.
Overall Review: Sent drive back for replacement
Pros: Good storage amount, decently fast compared to a SSD
Cons: Died in about two years, first time I've ever had a disk drive fail. I've had PC's for over 8 years that always had either the mobo or CPU die long before a disk drive went out. I'm still using the SSD from my previous build in this unit - It's at least 7 yrs old.
Overall Review: As somebody who values long term usage over performance, I can't suggest anybody buying this. Mine may be a fluke, but I never give the same product line another chance after something like this happens.
