Never going seagate gain 6/15/2020 9:20:18 PM

Pros: Price, Speed and Cache

Cons: Loud, Makes very uncomfortable noise. Raid failed

Overall Review: So I figured I would give Seagate another shot after over 10 years of being a very happy WD customer. I read the reviews on Ironwolfs and I wanted to give them a try for my media server. Well come home to find that the raid failed and I have lost everything. Currently trying a recovery program but I doubt it very highly I will be recovering anything. Needless to say I will be now slowly replacing these Seagates with WD's as I don't seem to have any problems with them.

So far so good 6/2/2020 2:08:26 PM

Pros: Arrived quickly and packaging was pristine and secure. Both 10TB drives are operating in my 24/7 server for a few weeks with no issues. Pleased with my purchase so far. Expect these drives to run for at least 5 years under current load will update this review if anything changes.

Overall Review: Overall satisfied with NewEgg and Seagate on this purchase.

Great NAS Drive! 2/26/2020 12:13:02 PM

Pros: UPDATE (February 26, 2020): This drive has been running strong in our multi-purpose home server since August 2016. With moderate to sometimes heavy use in that time. No errors or issues! Still going strong!

This Seagate 10TB IronWolf NAS HDD is a sweet deal, a solid drive built for heavy workloads in a NAS environment. We tested the drive in both a desktop NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS 314) as well as our home server, and in both cases it performed flawlessly.

The drive is rated with a max sustained transfer rate of about 210MB/s, we saw about 230MB/s on average, so not bad at all. This was on our server, your transfer speeds over your network will depend on your network hardware limitations.

Only having the drive in use about 2 weeks as of this review, I can't say much about it's longevity, but so far it's performing as advertized. We have put it under as much of a load as we can, in both the NAS and server, with up to 6 users all accessing the drive at the same time. It's easy to see we are not even coming close to maxing out the drives potential.

My experience with the drive is on par with many of the other reviews giving it a solid 5-egg rating. The point is, it works, and it works as designed.

Cons: None as of yet.

Overall Review: Overall, this seems like a great drive, and I would easily recommend it to anyone looking for high-capacity NAS solutions.

Failed drive in less than 10 months. 2/5/2020 2:00:15 PM

Overall Review: Poor quality drives. I bought four an one has already died in less than 10 months of use in a home NAS. Dying that quickly with such a light workload is unimpressive.

Would not invest in these again.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE DRIVES..!!!!!!!!!!!! 10/26/2019 6:27:06 AM

Pros: Large capacity is the pro of these drives

Cons: Purchased (12) 10TB HDD in one year. Have them in a freenas server system. 6 Drive with bad sectors. Replaced one through Seagates program, given a refurbished drive. I also use two drives as hotspare and one spare as redundant drive. Thankfully i used hotspares other wise my data would be gone. These drives all have problems with bad read write sectors. For the money i spent should have paid a little more and got WD Drives reds. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THESE DRIVES...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall Review: I never go with seagate drives over the years, now years later after using these drives i know why.

Manufacturer Response:
Hello Andrew,

We regret to hear about your experience with the Seagate IronWolf. From what we understand, the cache on these drives are disabled by Synology DSM making them slow. We can empathize with your frustration, and we're hoping to lend a helping hand and offer some assistance which may resolve the issue.

Transfer speeds can be affected and be directly impacted by various factors. For example, such factors include:
- File type
- Size of file
- Port versions
- Services enabled
- Computer configurations
- Programs running in the background

We mention these factors as a manner of suggesting the variables that can affect transfer speed. We would suggest you consider such factors and see what may be applicable. This can explain possible performance issues.

If you were not able to find a resolution with the troubleshooting steps listed above, we’d like the opportunity to carefully review your concerns and work towards a resolve for you. Please request to speak with a Seagate expert by phone or email with the link below, so we can further investigate and explore the available options: https://support2.seagate.com/?language=en-us

Kind Regards,
Matt
