100% totally painless brand - built like a tank, A++ performance10/8/2020 8:14:36 PM
Pros: I run a small to medium sized IT service company based upon a "hardware as a service" model where for a fixed monthly cost per seat we handle all the hardware needs as well as software and technical support.
Pretty much the only two OEMs I actually trust are SeaSonic as well as Super Flower (who also makes an excellent product)
Normally for my own person systems I buy the fanless SeaSonic, but with their new Fanless mode I get to save a few dollars and have some extra headroom if I ever go nuts and really load a system down.
When you are putting a system together there is always the temptation to skimp a bit on the power supply and try to stretch to the next CPU or GPU up the food chain..... Don't do it.
Pretty much every informed technical writing in existance says the current SeaSonic platform is the best out there in terms of design and a 10 year warranty and an outstanding reputation tells you what you need to know.
Every brand has the odd DOA, and both Newegg and Seasonic are top flight dealing with these issues, but for the vast, vast, vast majority of buyers this is literally "set it and forget it"
SeaSonics do their job efficiently, (near) silently, and they do it for a very, very long time. If you need a power supply, don't overthink this.. just by a SeaSonic in your price/power range and you will be happy..
Cons: There will always be a few quibbles - yes, the cables are a tad stiff, so for 10 minutes of the 10 years you will be living with this thing it's a bit of a pain... so what?
No flashing lights, LEDS or other things that have zero to do with actual performance.
Overall Review: Best platform currently out there.
Outstanding reputation and warranty.
Are you buying this thing to look pretty, or do its job for the next decade?
Pros: Seasonic PSU's don't skimp. Seasonic PUS's still powering two 2009 builds (since given away), heavily OC'ed 2012 Ivy Bridge and OC'ed 2018 Coffee Lake 8700K.
I suspect the fan works but I've never heard it.
Cons: Out of date user manual tells me not to use it in the bathtub in 20 languages but not how the fan control button works.
Overall Review: Fan control button: out is Fanless Mode at light loads. In is fan always running.
Two CPU (EPS) 8-pin cables seems a bit excessive for 750W PSU. I'd probably want a bigger supply for dual/multi CPU builds. Still has plenty of SATA & PCI-E cables for my needs.
Pros: -Solid construction
-Really quiet, can barely here it, if at all. I never owned a PSU you can't here...unless it's dead (it's not)
-Cables seem high quality
-10 year warranty, so you know they have trust in there product
-The tester was a nice touch
-Hybrid mode is nice for a non gaming pc. This mode is probably better for workstations.
-Came with extras like zip ties, Velcro strips, and a sticker if that's your thing. Of course screws as well.
-So far seems very efficient
Cons: NO CONS on the actual product, but the manual could have been better. It is the bare minimum to get by.
Normally that's enough, but the manual fails to explain 2 features of this product, so I'll explain.
1. The Tester: To use the tester attach the motherboard cable to the PSU and tester (there's a flap on the tester, there's no need to open the flap). Make sure the hybrid button is PUSHED IN. Then turn on the PSU and the fan should start moving, indicating it's working and receiving power.
2. Hybrid Mode: What is this mode? Basically it keeps the fans from spinning only when it needs to cool down the unit, essentially turning into a passive cooling PSU. Then once it gets to a certain temperature the fan kicks in. Whether this prolongs the life of the product, I don't know. To activate it you activate it the button on the back has to remain UNPUSHED. (Maybe they got my wiring wrong)
Overall Review: Great PSU does what it should and some
Manufacturer Response:
Hello Benjamin,
Thank you for your valuable feedback on our product. We will make sure to provide your comment to our Product Manager in order to get the manual modified to provide more information regarding PSU tester and Hybrid mode. We are sorry if it caused any inconvenience to you.
Once again, thank you for your feedback, it's very important to us and thank you for choosing Seasonic.
Best regards,
Smart compromises make this the best SFF Option1/21/2019 2:45:04 PM
Pros: -120mm fan in SFF size
-10-year warranty
-Quiet operation
-Steady Power
-Fully Modular
Cons: -Slightly longer than competitors (but this is to allow 120mm fan, so not really a con.)
Overall Review: If you are looking at a SFF PSU, you are likely building in a tiny case. That means you have three real options to chose from. This Seasonic FOCUS SGX-650, Corsair SF600, and the Silverstone SX650.
All three of these Power supplies are fully modular and gold. However, the big difference comes in the fact that the Seasonic comes with a 120mm fan and a 10-year warranty.
The Seasonic is 125mm x 125mm x 63.5. The Corsair and Silverstone are 125mm x 100mm x 63. By trading 25mm in length, you get upgraded from a 92mm fan (what comes with the Silverstone and Corsair) to a 120mm fan (what comes in the Seasonic). The end result, si a much quieter operating power supply. You also get to add in that it is paired with the best warranty on the market (Seasonic 10 years, Corsair 7 years, and Seasonic 1 year).
Pros: Small form factor
High capacity / efficiency for its price
Cons: Incorrect info on website / specifications page regarding connectors / wires
Overall Review: It seems incredibly hard to find information on this product (with the Focus Plus series drawing all the attention), but this is a great product for its value. Long warranty, high efficiency, high capacity, and despite what the newegg Specifactions page or official Seasonic website say, this does come with 4 PCI-E connectors. There are two on the undetachable cable, and two more from the modular cable. They should fix the information pages ASAP if they want more buyers.
very good quality power supply10/1/2017 7:49:24 AM
Pros: fully modular with good quality cables. My focus is on reliable power delivery, not bling since I have a closed case. I worked with electronics most of my life so a power supply is no mystery to me.
Cons: There is nothing I disliked about this power supply. My build is all black so it fits right in.
Overall Review: I tend to think of Seasonic as a premium brand. I believe this will las5t a long time.
Typical great product from a respected brand, stiff cable sheaths7/25/2019 8:30:06 AM
Pros: The hybrid fan is a nice touch, and the fact that it's on a switch is even nicer. I'm going for a silent build so the hybrid fan was an absolute must.
The 10Y warranty gives me peace of mind knowing that this PSU will probably be one of the LAST things I have to replace in this build; and with the fully modular construction I know I can go get custom cables made for my next build, if I need them to bring it to the next level.
Cons: The sheathing on the cables seems to be glued in place, and zip tied under the heatshrink. This is done up way too close to the connectors, and it was a struggle to get the connectors to lay where I wanted them, and that hole bundle is VERY stiff with the heatshrink, the zip tie, and the glue; to the point of being completely rigid. This made it very difficult to get the cables neat.
Seasonic, next revision of your cables, please come up with a more flexible overwrap design; this is the only part of your PSU kit that was less than stellar
Overall Review: Typical great product from a respected brand. I was looking at other PSUs, and all the others in the running for my build were just rebadged Seasonic. So, between that, and the fact the others were out of stock at my retailer, I decided to just go to the source.
I'm very happy. It's got a nice heft to it that conveys quality; it looks nice, it feels nice; and it's quiet.
The only thing that I would change, to give it that last star is to bundle it with better designed cables.
Manufacturer Response:
Hello Daniel,
Thank you for your comment. Current cables provided with FOCUS Plus got inline capacitors for ATX 24 pins, CPU and PCIe and this is why they may be a bit stiff as the capacitor need to be well maintained and protected. However, wish granted as soon a new cable set will replace the current one and avoid this stiff issue you can sometimes have.
Thank you for choosing Seasonic and for your feedback that is very valuable for us.
Best Regards,
Pros: Small form factor
Modular cables
No issues so far
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: Was making a custom case and needed something small with a decent punch. This one for the bill perfectly. Since it pulls air from the bottom and exhausted out the back, I was able to mount it over the motherboard for extra airflow. Cables were stiff, but not problematic. The wire bundles could be snaked instead of ribboned, but they were easy to work with.the cable length was ample for my needs, but if you have a midsized or large case, you may have issues.
